  • Hey Guest,

    Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

    This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

    In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

69. Boomer.

Are Boomers already dead? Too happy since they got everything handed to them in life? Or what? It's weird how few there are here given how many there are out there.

Boomer here.

For now.

Nothing was ever handed to me. At age 10, I worked in a family business, no pay. At age 15, I lied about my age and got a "real job", $0.95/hr. At age 17 I moved out of my parents' house and have supported myself ever since. Age 22, two years off for babies. Went to college at age 40, worked full time with a full course load. Graduated with honors. I have worked 50 years out of my life of 69. At times I worked several jobs just to pay the rent. Never collected a penny from any social welfare, family member or friend. Every thing I have, I worked for. Blood, sweat, and tears.

And yes, I use computers. And a smart phone. Judiciously. So statements like we don't use computers and had everything handed to us are like oldsters saying the younger generation all live sponging off their parents and playing video games all day.

Not sure how directly one can compare that. Many people above 40 have no experience with computers or the internet. I wouldn't say that Baby Boomers are the happiest people, I'd say they have overall the lowest internet usage and so only few created accounts here. Plus, Boomers who were suicidal 20 years ago might have already commited suicide and can't be here either.

@PeacefulRest, too.
That's true, but if you look at the survey:
https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/survey-results-july-2020.44753/
The numbers are close as well. What I'm trying to say is that our generation (Y and Z) are more related to suicide, which is scary, since that turned into a problem to soon for younger people. Of course we can't ignore the Baby Boomers and the Gen X as well. Anyway, no matter how great you try to colour the world, we can't ignore the many flaws that our society are into, in the end, we're in the same boat, all of us.

I'm 21, will be 22 in a couple of weeks. Sometimes I wish that I developed depression later in life, so that I could have experienced more of life before it set in.
