I knew four and I think there might be a few others (who died prematurely but I'm not sure how)
First was when I was 17. Someone of 18 threw himself off a very tall building. Another one died on the railway line ten years ago.
I wouldn't have particularly expected any of these people to do what they did. It was a terrible shock in each instance.
They were quite popular and attractive. But basically your average wage slaves. Be in no doubt people you grew up with who you thought you were inferior to (and who perhaps bullied you) will not always get the perfect life TV taunts you with.

I knew of one. I don't think I ever spoke to him but he was a student at my college. I remember that they didn't say exactly how they died but we all knew because of that.

I actually know 2 and there was 1 more that I know of...

When I was a kid, there was a young neighbor couple in their early twenties... they seemed happy together. I kept going over to their place and asking to use the guy's bicycle pump to inflate my basketball almost every day. He was nice to me.

One night, and I completely slept through all the commotion so I only know what my father told me the next day... but apparently late at night the girl next door came knocking frantically on our door. My father opened to see her crying and basically she had found her husband in their bedroom post-you-know... there were police and all sorts of stuff that I slept through. I never saw anything. She moved away, don't know what happened to her. The guy's father came by one day sorting things out and all... and he was telling my father and I how his son liked me and wanted to buy me a new basketball.

There was a guy who worked with my father. I never met him. There was a Christmas party at work and he was there with his fiancee, had too much to drink at the party, and on the way home had a car accident that beat him up pretty good but ended his fiancee. That guy never recovered... I think within a week he ended himself.

Somewhere around 2007, give or take, an old friend from high school called me. He had been drinking and we talked for hours about his life falling apart. Mine wasn't very good either so I couldn't offer him much, but we talked. I asked if he wanted to come over or if he was drinking too much should I come see him. We didn't see each other. I called and left a message on his answering machine, then a few days later someone I didn't know called and said she was calling me because of the message and to tell me that he had been found a day or so earlier having taken his life.

Oh, and I guess I should add... my mother had a scar on her stomach from a gunshot wound. She always said she was playing with her father's gun as a kid one day... but given other things, we all pretty much figured it had been a failed attempt at ending her life. I often figure that I really should never have existed.

6 people my friend when he was 16 shot himself because of sextortion, a family friend killed himself he was 30 (though I lowkey think the gf may have had something to do with that), a family friend he was paralyzed he had the cutest dog very lovely soul he used fentanyl to od, an old friend of mine hung himself he was 20, a guy I knew did it the day before his child was born he was 23, and most recently a guy I knew and he hung himself after being threatened.

I have a photo of myself in London in 1984 with five friends.
Three of them have killed themselves, one seriously attempted and I've no idea what happened to the other guy I've not seen him since the 80s.
Creepy.

Woah, your GP??? How did you find out? Did they sympathise with your suicidal ideation (if you were suicidal at that time)?

my ex's older brother. he was native american and basically fit the "super wise and animal lover native" stereotypes in the movies lol. he taught me about firearms. i broke up with my ex years ago so lost contact until a mutual friend told me. i miss his brother so, so much. every day.

My babysitter when I was 8, an acquaintance from high school when I was in grade 10 and my cousin hung himself when he was 17. I was 22 at the time.

My father. I never met him even though my mother offered visits because he was dodging child support though lol

My cousin shot himself three years ago. He apparently invited his dad — my uncle, to watch a football game at his house. When my uncle showed up, he found my cousin dead. My extended family was very confused as to why my cousin invited my uncle to watch football if he was planning on ending his life that same afternoon.
I feel so bad for my uncle. He is such a gentle and sweet soul. He misses his son so much and his final memory of him is seeing him with a gunshot wound to his head. And of course, I feel so bad for my cousin who was in such a dark place that he felt the need to do that.

I hope he is at peace now.

1 of my friends walked into a river 8yrs ago, my best friend ctb 4yrs ago (9months to the day after my mum died), then last year another friend hanged themself, 12mths ago my niece overdosed. I could probably think of a few more but can't think at the moment

Way too many. 3 people I knew (not close with) during school. 1 person who was my good friend, though not when they died.

3 close friends in my 20s, 1 in my 30s.

And about 8-10 additional people I knew through friends or social group.

I'm also suspicious about the death of 2 extended family members. And at least 1 family member killed themselves before I was born.

2 best friends (2014 - train, 2024 - Opiate) and a few acquaintances & friends throughout the years (Some hanging, some OD's, some unknown).
The latest death was on the 23rd November 2025 and also the reason i finally made an account on here.

i had one friend online when i was around 13-14 (who was suicidal at the time). one day he left me a message and then never logged on again....not sure if that meant he has ctb'd, but wherever he is, i hope he's at peace
