Germany another suicide because of imprisonment for failure to pay a fine

Here is the article in German language. I am pretty angry about that. I could not find how widespread this is in international justice systems, I will expain it to you here. I am only layman but I try it as good as possible. In Germany you will have to go to prison if you cannot pay a fine of a court. To be honest I don't understand all details for example how long the people are imprisoned. Though I have read 1/4 of all of those prisoners could not pay for their fine because they dodged the fare. Yes they are imprisoned because of fare evasion (when they took a train without ticket)

Needlessly to say these people often were very poor. Statistically especially very vulnerable groups have to go to prison because of that. For example mentally ill people who cannot work.

Personally I am very scared this could happen to me. I probably cannot work and I am extremely anxious about poverty. With my bad luck I could imagine this happens to me. It is very unfair that people are not treated equally in the justice system. A rich person will laugh about such a fine. And a poor eldery or mentally ill person has to go to prison for it. What a fucking inhumane system.

There are some groups who want to reform the system. Honestly politicians who are against a reform of this grievance disgust me. They are hypocrites. They pretend to care about suicide prevention but in practice they just say it to please their voters. The thing is especially the christian conservatives are rather tough on crimes. Exactly the people who want to stop new liberal assisted suicide laws. Though to be fair also a lot of leftwingers are against liberal assisted suicide laws.

I hate the two-class society. Like in the justice system or concerning assisted suicide. Rich people can laugh about fines and poor people go to prison. Moreover rich people can easily pay for assisted suicide. Obviously not in every country and only limited to some conditions. Though even if they accepted that I could apply for assisted suicide it costs several thousand bucks. I don't have the money for a peaceful death how cyncial is that. I read a lot about assisted suicide. At least in other countries. You have to pay A HUGE amount of money so that a psychiatrist looks into your case to get the right certificate. He possibly could deny you the right and just would have wasted several thousand euros. It is disgusting how expensive assisted suicide is.

What a fuck cynical joke. The society disgusts me how they treat vulnerable people in these two instances. It is so unfair.

Yeah that's pretty sick. Fines are just ridiculous to begin with. They are just profiting off of crimes and infractions. There should be other ways to handle these things. I guess I have no idea what though so who knows.

The law punishes people who break it so surely, a train ticket evader runs the risk of punishment. I'm afraid the situations may only worsen amongst people who struggle to pay bills, find food, live in a safe place as the global economic situations looks uncertain. Poorer people will suffer most as usual and politicians don't really care. Rich people hire accountants and lawyers and hire best medics. ordinary folk stuggle. Just last Week out government in UK attempted but failed to reduce tax for the wealthy. Now 2 billion May not sound much in a large economy but in my mind, it reflects the priority of those in charge. Society will need a revolution to change the status quo. Sorry to hear about you. I'm ill and it's hard. I get little medical support.
