i feel like everytime i try to get closer to the people close to me i suddenly loose all social skills i have (if i do have any at all..)
it feels like i'm an alien trying to infiltrate humans lol

How do i even begin to make friends? is it just too late for me now? xd

multiple times people have tried to befriend me first but i would get overwhelmed and shut down and wouldn't be able to talk to them, so they would leave me alone. i want to scream

same here it's tough as rocks to make a friend. Online it's kinda easy but not really a friendship is it? getting a friend is a whole mission itself. Actually talking and doing the stuff needed to get a friend is even harder. Maintaining that friendship will also probably be tough. Ive given up a long time ago.

I totally relate. Keep trying. I would suggest community service or a work environment with lots of people around your age. Regular exposure to people with some common interests is often the formula to foster friendship. Also, once you make a few friends it becomes much much easier to make more. It is normal for it to be hard to make friends when you have none, then once you make a few it gets exponentially easier. It's just the way it is. I say this as someone who has had lots of friends at some times, even verging on "popularity" and no friends at others. Many people are in your situation. Examples of community service where you interact with people:

food bank, cleaning environment (planting trees etc), working in a shelter: examples of jobs with lots of interaction: large retail environment, hotel or hostel, touristy jobs with many workers.

It's really difficult for me to make friends too, and I live in a relatively small town so there aren't many chances either.
I'm kind of secretive about my personal life and past, mostly because there's rarely much to say about it that isn't negative and because I fear people seeing me differently if they get to know me.
I wish I had more friends but when it comes to socializing it feels like I'm missing something crucial to function, and I'm oblivious as to what it is.
