  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Whether it be family or a community, I am curious about the general consensus of how people react to the aftermath.

Mostly sadness, shock, and confusion followed by a grieving process.

The reaction to a person's suicide can vary greatly though among different individuals and communities. Some people may experience shock, disbelief, and grief upon learning of a loved one's suicide. Others may feel anger, betrayal, or guilt. Still, others may feel relief, especially if the person had been suffering from a terminal illness or severe mental health condition.

In some cases, the person's suicide may be met with disbelief or denial, especially if the person did not appear to be struggling or did not leave a note. In other cases, the person's suicide may be met with anger or blame, particularly if the person was perceived to have abandoned their loved ones or responsibilities.

Overall, the reaction to a person's suicide can be complex and varied, and it is likely to be influenced by a number of factors, including the individual's relationship to the person, the circumstances of the suicide, and the cultural and social context in which it occurred.

It's painful. I hope I don't make it to the 3 year anniversary of my late partner's CTB.

It varied in my social group. What's quite interesting to me is that there was very minimal reaction. Brief chatter at a wake and some cursory acknowledgement for people catching up after the fact and then ultimately nothing. Not that I think it was forgotten. I always think of the relevant people as I pass a certain tree, a family home or place of respective significance. But it is rare any words are spoken. That said though, in my youth there were parents that did it and their families (children) were certainly impacted by it quite significantly. I suppose everything is relative but it coild be said that it's potentially harder on chidren to lose a parent in their formative years than it is for a parent to lose a grown member of their offspring. Probably because it will inform a growing mind and influence it, leaving a more significant imprint than it might on a fully formed one. But that's only my experience and I don't assume my little world is indicative of the full spectrum of possible outcomes. Ultimately its a painful experience for most people within apitting distance of the bus catcher.

My best friend killed himself last year. I was seemingly the only one who cared. It was disgusting to see the people who treated him like garbage throw pity parties for themselves. Then, they dropped the facade in a couple days and I was blamed. I'm basing this on personal experience, but I think certain factors such as age tend to affect how people feel about someone CTB.
