Starved of oxygen, cells in your body begin to die, everywhere, including the brain.
Within a couple of minutes after you become unconscious, a significant amount of brain damage has already occurred.
However, the body does not die completely until 28 to 40 minutes after unconsciousness.
If, for some reason, the flow was interrupted, the bag disturbed, the hose kicked off, whatever, and the body were to start receiving oxygen again, you could live, but be anywhere from mildly to severely brain damaged, ie: vegetable.
this sure makes this method pretty dicey then... and thank you for the explanation

Actually, it has a very good success rate, but you just have to be sure you have everything right.
Robin Williams used this method.
It is also one of the most gentle ways to go, if you are a coward, like me. :)

Thank you for the explanation. Assuming no interruption, I understand 40 minutes at 15 lpm with a full tank of Nitrogen will do the trick.
Yes, 40 minutes at 15Lpm is accepted as the standard protocol. Well summarized!

If done correctly and without interruptions, should it cause brain death within 10 minutes? At 15 lpm my tank should run for 37.5 minutes, but I am wondering if that will be enough time?

Also, do you just put the bag over your head, tighten it, and then turn on the gas? Or is there something else you're supposed to do?

I did a couple things.

The first was to just fill the eb with air and sit with it over my head until breathing became challenging. .

@TiredHorse - specific question about the quote above: How did you fill the bag with air?

I just sort of scooped it full of air as I drew it down over my head. I didn't try and inflate it. You will be astonished how long the amount of air in a turkey bag lasts. I sat around, twiddled my thumbs, got bored, got up and went to the bathroom, came back to my chair, twiddled my thumbs some more... It took a really long time for the hypercapnic alarm to start making a fuss.

That's marginal, on that tank size. I would say that if you have any difficulty breathing deeply, and passing out at once, you should fall back and call it a test run.

You put the bag on your head like a shower cap, with the elastic drawcord around the nape of your neck, under your ears, and just above your eyes. You then squeeze out all the air. Once all the air is out, you open the valve and let the bag fill with gas. Once the bag is inflated with gas, and with the regulator set at 15Lpm, you hyperventilate, then exhale as much as you can, hold your lungs empty, pull the bag down into place, and take a deep inhalation of gas.

@color_me_gone ,

A bit off topic: then you'd wonder why for many people it takes hours or more to die from a Nembutal overdose.

I am wrong.
Robin Williams used hanging.
I thought I read somewhere that he used the eb.
Either that info was wrong, or I am mistaken.
Sorry for the misinformation.

I really know very little about N, but it does seem to be the preferred method here.
Somehow, I just don't like the idea of any kind of poison, so I have only perused the N threads slightly.

I find the idea of depriving the body of life giving oxygen more appealing, but don't ask me why, cause I couldn't answer.
I also like the sneaky backdoor approach of defeating the bodies hypercapnic alarm for survival.
If done correctly, it is a peaceful and painless way to go.
I've said this before, in my opinion, eb/inert gas method is second only to dying in your sleep by natural causes.

Hallo TiredHorse. Can I ask a question. I understand importance of hyperventilation before pulling the bag down. Can you elaborate on the technical aspect of hyperventilation please.
And one more thing. There is still a lot of air [residual volume] in our lungs even after very hard exhale. Is the hyperventilation a way to remove most of it from our lungs? Thank you.

My understanding is that hyperventilation helps remove CO2 from the lungs, to reduce the chance of hypercapnic alarm. Perhaps someone more knowledgable than I (@gingerplum?) will chime in with a better explanation, though.

As for the residual air, it gradually cycles out through the course of normal respiration and is exchanged with the inert gas. That's why it takes a little while to become completely unconscious. But you don't need to make any special effort to extract it; just breathe deeply when the bag of inert gas is in place.

Can someone private message me? I can't seem to find my posts on this thread. I have purchased a nitrogen tank. I am short and it comes up just past my knees. Is it the right size? I have also purchased oven bags, elastic, toggles and plastic tubing. I don't understand the flow meter, what to buy or how it will fit on the tubing. I saw Betty's instructions and she revers to a self-made flow meter. I'm overwhelmed and confused and don't want to mess this up and wind up brain dead.

Months ago I took 8 times my lethal dose of oxycodon, alcohol and every pill in my house. I tied a bag around my head. I woke up from a coma days later. Apparently I tried to get up whilst in a coma for 10 hours and fell and hit my head dead weight on the floor of my apartment. My landlord didn't like the sound so he investigated and called 911. I spent 8 days in the hospital. They told me it was near impossible I got away without significant brain or organ damage. I can't go through that again.

Someone please help me talk through this plan.

What is a good position to be in during the exit bag in a hotel room? Something that will not cause the tank to fall over, but also so the bag will stay put?

this video was already posted in another thread but its worth to be posted again since it shows that this method is quite peaceful

especially if you compare how pigs react when they use co2 like normal

Can anyone give me some advice about the bag making?

I watched the GLADD video on YT of a lady making the bag.The bag she uses looks pretty sturdy, like thick storage bags do. But the Roast Turkey bags I've seen recommended are super think and 'crinkley'. I bought some on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pack-Jumbo...48669371&sr=8-3&keywords=Turkey+Roasting+Bags

but are these really the ones to use? Very thin and fragile, and I imagine easily punctured if moving about a bit during the event. I tried putting one inside another to strengthen, but not the prettiest of bags came out.

Any thoughts welcome and if anyone can point me to a link for just the right bag (shipping to UK/EU) I'd appreciate it.

Have some straps to fix your tank to something sturdy: chair, radiator. Thats what I will do.
I will most likely be sitting, but I would prefer to be in bed with my rised. I havent decided yet.
I will also use zip ties and trouser belt to immobilize my hands.

I too bought roast oven bag first and like you I dont trust it - its too filmsy in my opinion. I ordered from ebay some heavy duty bags [200 microns]

You need 600l of nitrogen [for 40 min. the worst scenario] Unfortunately you should ask your supplier, whats the tank capacity.

Could you tell me what you keyed into ebay to find them, or a link? I can only find small ones for fish tanks or 50 microns for kitchen use.

Slightly different question. Has anyone ever done this with a bigger bag but no flow? So would a very large bag (eg 300 litres) entirely filled with helium then sealed with tape at the neck work?? If not why (esp as the helium stays helium when exhaled)

The regulator stuff is putting me off and honestly can't see why this wouldn't work.

I bought this from UK supplier:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/pyramidpackagingsupplies0796/
CLEAR POLYTHENE BAGS ALL SIZES 200 GAUGE STRONG CRAFT USE
Send them a message, maybe they have something similar 200 or 250 gauge

How thick 200 gauge? - have you seen DHL bags or shipping bags sold in UK post offices they are a tad thicker imo.

So something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wheelie-Liners-Strong-Rubbish-Refuse/dp/B078QTD17Z

People breath 8 litres a min I think.

I understand the flow is necessary to quickly remove CO2 from environment. And using a small pressurized bag keep oxygen from getting in.

I had no nervousness till I read the last few comment in this thread. I don't want to fuck it up and become a vegetable.

Does the roasting bag thickness really matter that much? My 11.6kg n2 tank is arriving in two weeks. I will buy my regulator round about then as well. I am planning to ctb on a double couch but now am considering an office chair. I am definitely going to triple reinforce the pipe inside the bag as well now.

I would say as long as your head is up, not obstructed by anything and there is no risk to fell - you should be fine.

Get both - choose the one you like better.
My roasting bag feels flimsy so I looked for alternative.

Im very sorry, I didnt mean to scare anyone.
