Hi. In preparation for CTB I have been worrying about what I leave behind, especially digitally. I have already deleted old accounts that I don't use and I'm thinking about eventually deleting all of my social media and my Google account as well. However, if my attempt should fail, I don't want to be left with nothing, so I want to buy a USB stick, password protecting it and hiding it in my room, so I could download my more important data and transfer it to the USB before deleting. Most accounts aren't deleted immediately anyway, they usually have a period ranging from 14-30 days in which you could still recover your account. Any thoughts on this plan? I am interested in hearing tips for ensuring I leave behind as little as possible, as there is definitely things that I haven't thought about.

Someone will still find your USB stick. I have already deleted most of my social media accounts, resetted my laptop and deleted its data, the last thing to do is to reset my phone just before I ctb. There's nothing I have online that I want to keep anyway.

As for the USB stick... who do you want to protect it from? That's the question, I think. Family? Police?
If it's the former, anything will work. For the latter, I'd use LUKS or something of that sort.

I have a question on this.I read in USA privacy law prevents cops from accessing personal data such as browing history unless they need to know the cause of death( I think it shouldn't be an issue in case of obvious suicide).Is my understanding correct or do I need to take additional efforts to erase my digital footprints?
I don't think the police is interested in my data lmao. It's just that I am worried about permanently deleting everything, so I want a backup for myself. I know a password doesn't do much, but I don't think anybody close to me will use some decryption tactics.
I'm (thankfully) not from the US, so I'm not sure about that, but if you're worried like I am about what will be left of you digitally, I'd suggest taking measures deleting it beforehand.

hey I wouldnt want anybody to have my data including police. anyways a regular password with whatever encryption will do just fine in that case
