Some characters from Attack on Titan. I started reading the manga and watching the show in 2014, when I was 14, when my life steadily went downhill. They've always brought me comfort, just the few characters for a type of safespace in my head.

Ghost from Call of Duty. Let's just say I'm similar to him in some ways, especially when it comes to childhood. For some reason, characters who "share traumas" with me are strangely comforting to me.

Same shit with Camille Preaker from Sharp Objects and Glam from Metal Family.

Also I find strange comfort in Thomas Shelby character. I don't know why.

this is a hard question...every time I get into a new fandom, I have favorite characters, but they give me the feeling of an absolute nightmare. I've always considered "comfortable characters" to be those who don't evoke a feeling of animalistic fear but arouse interest (it's important to note that this fear felling only happens with human characters). In fact, the feeling that you described in me is caused by some of voices in my head.

Maybe on the surface this can be seen as silly, but i think if you look deeper (meaning looking in depth at my life and analyzing in depth why i find this character "comfortable") maybe it's not so silly. I think that each person has multiple reasons and factors that influence why they feel "comfortable" with a character so i don't think it's okay to judge and mock someone with little information.

In part i think there's "comfort" in this character because she has some of the characteristics of what i consider 'an ideal person'. I think that also in part because i have been treated as a joke or a parasite, treated with rudeness, violence, indifference, invalidation and judgment by the majority of people encountered in my life. Maybe in part there's a longing to be treated with compassion, empathy and understanding, don't know, not sure.

Although at the moment i'm not able to completely discern the other characteristics of why she gives me "comfort."

And of course, gender has nothing to do with her being "comfortable" even if this character were male and kept the rest of her characteristics i wouldn't feel any different about her. I mention this character because she is recent and my brain has been a little obsessed lately.

I've only made it to yakuza 5 so that's where my knowledge about him stands. Throughout all his trails and tribulations he's stood behind his beliefs and taken care of his people by any means necessary while still maintaining a great moral compass. I've always wanted to be someone like that with a heart like he has.

Also the obvious Uncle Iroh lol but I figured that was a given answer based on my profile.

Kiryu is a good one. He's such a good character and sometimes I get giddy whenever I see a picture or meme of him.

I have quite a few but I usually tend to fixate on one at a time and my current lifeline is Reo Mikage from Blue Lock (ironic since my pfp is Chigiri instead).

Some of my other comfort characters are Qi Rong from TGCF, Serpico from Berserk, Asuka from Evangelion, Agni from Fire Punch, practically the whole CSM cast and others.
