Discussion Does anyone else find the idea of a funeral being held for them troubling?

I do. I find it really frustrating in fact. Now, I know the funeral is for everyone else, it's hardly about me, but It just seems delusional. I don't believe anyone really knew me and I'm sure I will be totally misrepresented. Ill be cringing in my grave. Not to mention the utter waste of money raked in by the grief exploiting funeral directors, the fucking bloodsuckers....

I just want to be wrapped in a shroud and tossed in a ditch to rot and to soon be forgotten. Just how it was meant to be.

Exactly! That's why in my letter and real life conversations I say all the time I don't want a funeral.
They know I don't wanna have it so if they still do it, f*** them! I'll be dead and won't mind, anyway.

I want to be cremated - 'Straight to ashes' - no ceremony - and then thrown in a river. Any river will do.

Well, they still do closed casket ceremonies. Hell, they may even do it after a while if you're never found

I also dont want a funeral. I feel its a waist of money and ppl preying on weakness in the time of greivig. Why else does it cost so much to put a body in the ground? This is why I wish I could just dissapear. Unfortunately even if I ctb in the woods my body would be found eventually so I'd be brought in for a funeral anyways. I just hate how it'll be my body stuck inside a wooden box

You don't actually need to have a funeral. I'm not really sure why people seem to have this impression. My father in law passed away and donated his body to science. About 2 years later we had the cremated remains that were left back and scattered them in a river. Only 3 of us were there for that. No pomp or speeches. He was an incredible man.

Edit: I should probably mention that if you wish to donate your body to science you need to have made explicit wishes in a legal Will and been in contact with the place you wish to donate it to. It's not just a case of leaving a post it note. It's quite a formal process in the UK.

It upsets me that it is not allowed and there is nobody who would turn up. I wanted my ashes to be scattered over the waterfall pool we swam in. There was a video of it it with a pair of dragonflies dancing over the water. The water was gold and bottle green. He must've deleted the video, while he keeps the Abomination's dirty socks for years. He never gave me the pictures or videos, I could never ask for fear.

Anyways, he won't remember my wish or care or respect it. He might just take a floozy there and tell her to pee all over my memory, that's all.

I guess I was mostly talking about the memorial service. The 'celebration of life'. Sure you can have your corpse donated to science but you can't really ensure that people respect your wish to be forgotten

I ideally wanted to be cremated. But now I just hope im disposed of the cheapest way possible. I hate this body and want it to be forgotten. As far as funerals I feel they are inevitable. The thought people will come and say things about me is unruly.

Funerals are really for the sake of the living, not the deceased, so I don't really mind. I would rather there was not a funeral since I don't like being the centre of attention but hey I'd be dead anyway so doesn't matter. Whatever helps people move on. Still better than a living funeral.

Here in the US its easy. My ex mother in law had her mothers body donated to life legacy after she died and there was no prior arrangement. They sent back ashes in a box after they harvested what they wanted.

I think in the US it is illegal for a body to not be embalmed before funeral/ burial. This is so you,for sure, on the off chance, don't wake up in the casket or underground.

Yes, I am requesting to have no funeral, none of that nonsense. Even if it's supposed to be about them and not me..wtf then. They do not deserve for my death to be about them, they made no effort to understand my struggles in life and had no interest in me as a human being, they do not know who I am and yes, they will misrepresent me horribly, as they have in life. Humiliating. I just want to disappear entirely. I want to be cremated immediately after they rule my death a suicide, and then I want my ashes thrown far away from any of these people. I am so tired.
