I see it come up sometimes in neurodivergent, but especially autistic, spaces where someone may develop a special interest in something others may find too intense.

For me, suicide and ways people have died in general have become such a subject. I think it developed this way in my preteens when I first started researching how to take my own life. I wouldn't say I gain any enjoyment from the suffering of others, but I do spend a lot of time researching and educating myself on it. What I do find fascinating is how much the human body can take but still persist in some cases, while seemingly is so fragile in others. I also have recieved strange looks from others when I had stated I appreciate the work morticians do.

I do wonder if anyone else has a similar special interest, or maybe a different one that would sound offputting to others, and if so, what is it?

Suicide has become a special interest for me yes. I'm so obsessed with everything about it. I wish it was possible to find more media about the topic that isn't overrun by forced-lifers and stupid hotlines. Being so interested in the topic, I hope to attempt someday~

I have other unconventional interests but none of them are as morbid. I don't share those because I don't want to be identified 😁

I also have an uncoventional opinion on literally everything...

If you are open to sharing sometime, I wouldn't be against hearing about what other interests you may have in private! But I do understand the want for privacy, I am careful about what I share here myself.

It's nice to have differing opinions, even if I don't agree with what others say always. I find it allows me to really consider why I think how I do about things.

I think my special interest has changed from researching methods to being a mass poster on here. I think though if my pain level increased the interest it would move back to planning my suicide. But for now it is being a mass poster on here.

But I have many special interests.

I watch Gore every day, apart from the fact that I like watching documentaries about school shooters or serial killers especially their lives as well as other things I won't mention for privacy reasons and so as not to give a bad impression xd

I'm the specific breed of sperg where I am autistic enough to be a retard who struggles with basic shit, but not autistic enough to have any "hyperfixations" or be really good at math or some shit and worst of all be aware of my own retardation.

i have had ones that are usual though i dont know if i've had really any thats offputting specifically. but i have had a lot that are really obscure, like a few plays that no one has heard of, or tv shows that are aimed at way younger audience then i am. i guess sometimes the kids shows gets to be offputting to people in a different way, they assume i must be unintelligent or an annoying person when i liked things like sesame street while i was an an older teen/adult. i still do like sesame street a lot though i dont consider it a special interest anymore.

i do wonder now if death is kind of a special interest to me. or maybe it just is something i spend a lot of time reading about and thinking about. i also very much love personifications of death, especially the ones in discworld, and have written a few fanifctions that center around death with characters from other special interests. there are a few fanfiction plots i use over and over in multiple fandoms, and having a character die and need to find their way to the next place is one i use a lot. i had a ttrpg character as well who was the son of the grim reaper. i think to some extent i also just like characters who represent a concept in general (like the spirits in spirited away, or greek gods) but death is a favorite concept.

Same.

Probably Pokémon when I was younger since I was absolutely obsessed with it, but I haven't had the energy (too tired), mental space (too dumb), nor emotional strength (too weak against nostalgia) to claim a "hyperfixation" or stay invested in any hobbies for a long time. I have distanced myself from a lot of things I love(d).

I'm too hyperaware/hyperconscious to take in any experience at face value because experiencing things knowing they'll become a moment in the past or inevitably affected by change is too painful. And I've just become so ridiculously stupid that I can't even take in/retain any information when experiencing new things of interest. So everything kinda goes to bust.

Too scared to try anything. Too dumb to try anything.

For me my main special interests are watching niche/obscure/lesser-known cartoons (or any animated media really), and watching YouTube Poops. Yes YTPs are still a thing. Both of these have been my longest and most consistent interests in my life and I've enjoyed them for as long as I can remember. For animated media I tend to hyperfixate on all the intricacies and details of specific shows and obsessively re-watch and analyse various episodes. There are also a lot of fictional characters I attach to. For YTPs I love seeing the ones that push video-editing software to its extreme limits with all the crazy, fast-paced, off-the-walls editing and loud visual distortions. It's like taking drugs without actually taking drugs lol.

Reading death notices, visiting cemeteries, reading coroner's reports.
