So I don't know about you, but recently, as I just care less and less about any future prospects, my spending habits have changed. I've been pretty stingy for most of my adult life (well not always, but mainly), but recently I've started just buying random things, which I don't really need right now (like extra clothes I like for example). I know that it would be better to save, but I kinda stopped caring. I have some investments I made for the long term and the funny thing is that I can see my investments in 10 years, but not myself. So yeah, I don't care that much about saving anymore. Mby it's a bit cringe to say this, but I always used to think that money is temporary, but drip is eternal. So I'm buying clothes now, which I find cool, why not, it gives me a temporary dopamine rush and I can dress well (not that anyone in particular would care tho)

Yeah, it's too addicting, buying/ ordering stuff gives you just enough dopamine, so that you want to do it again and again

My spending actually decreased as my mental state and physical health began declining, as fewer and fewer things held any appeal to me. I managed to work full-time for nearly two years after my initial diagnosis, so my savings benefitted tremendously, and kept me going for awhile after I could no longer work. It's long gone now, of course.

Having said all that, if I acquired a comfortable sum of money, after securing my necessities I would buy a Switch 2 and a pile of games with which to distract myself before whatever miserable end befalls me, so there would be a modicum of reckless spending.

Yes, because I'm planning to CTB. Since these are all my last meals, I'm going to have what I want.

I can also picture myself finding nothing appealing anymore and therefore not really buying anything other than necessities, but for now it still provides a bit of dopamine, though I know that I should probably stop. I hope you can someday buy the Switch 2

When I was bipolar rapid cycling two years ago, I was really reckless with spending and often drained my savings. I stopped caring and just embraced every delusional idea my brain gave me. But as my mood cycles calmed down over time, I've been less inclined to go on wild spending sprees. And it helped to find friends along the way who kept me functional long enough for me to reach a semblance of a stable place.

A couple of weeks ago, I started a real budget, and I am making an honest effort to adhere to it like a Warhammer Codex. I'm quite the opposite. I'm still suicidal (and I don't know if I'll last another couple of years), but I see a lot of progress I've made regardless, and I think I'm just beginning to actually like who I see in the mirror. Finally putting my finances back in the green will make me feel a lot better about myself -it'll be one win versus the various cluster-trucks in my life. And, if I end up being stronger than I appear, I'll have legitimate savings I can use to escape the place I'm in.

I know this isn't the common answer, but you asked a question right as I started taking control of my spending. So- :>

That's honestly great, I'm glad you're making such good progress. I mean, it's objectively a good thing to have some savings just to be more flexible and escape whatever situation you are in if that'd ever be necessary. I don't like go on extreme spending sprees, but I'm way less careful and stingy about my money, like I just buy stuff if I like without thinking too much abt it

Thank you ^-^ Yeah, no, I get that headspace in my own way. If I wasn't getting hit with manic delusions, I used to spend aimlessly on food and clothes, and those transactions add up so quickly T-T

That aside, I also do think "drip is eternal" lol
I think it's sometimes good to spend on yourself a little too, even if there was marginally less thought on it lol
I dunno, I get very anal about fashion. New clothes are always valid /silly

Yeah, I feel like food especially adds up super quick and it's gotten way more expensive as well. I agree, clothes are always valid and if I buy new clothes, I always try to look for things, which will stay with me for a long time. Fashion is just sth I still kinda enjoy

fs fs. I think a huge improvement in my spending is actually knowing which fabrics are durable and what I actually look good wearing. My closet is small, but I'm guaranteed to wear everything

I was raised to be stingy, so... No. Not really. I still am. Even more — I cut down my expenses as I don't really care about having stuff anymore.

Absolutely. Usually my spending increasing during manic episodes, but right now, during a rough depression, I can't bother to stop myself from buying food from work twice literally every work day. Luckily I get a discount, but it's still $5-10 a day that I probably can't afford. I plan to off myself soon though, so that's my justification. Might as well enjoy what I can (or at least make it less miserable) while I'm still here.

It stays the same for the most part. I don't really buy things, only pay for food and bills. I also just bought a Nintendo Switch I can't really afford but it brings me so much joy. I also cook way more at home cause food is one of the rare thing I have control over

I feel like sometimes overspending is valid, especially if it brings you joy

Once I acquired the means for my exit (SN) and was firmly determined that i will with 100% certainty ctb, my spending habits changed immensely. I began spending much more money than before.

I totally get you. My family members all make a decent amount of money and are very stingy about it, which of course rubbed off on me. As a child I never spent any money and I actually managed to save up a lot just on my own, about €15k. I had about €60k saved by my parents that was given to me when I turned 18 meant for an apartment, car etc.
I had a whole plan on how to use all my money for my future and everything, but now that I'm nearing my exit at 19 I just want to travel, dress nice and experience stuff I never have before, all on my own.
I don't want to go out with friends, I don't want to move out of my parents house and I don't want to get a car, because there really is no point in doing that. I'll be gone soon anyway so why not live as I want?
Also you should dress for yourself and wear what you like to wear, doesn't matter if there's anyone to see! Won't matter when you're resting anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Personally I've found a lot of respite in being on my own and doing my own thing, so I encourage you to do whatever you want and living your best before exiting this life 💗

Thank you, I actually had the exact same amount given to me when I was 18, tough it's already pretty diminished now, but I'm lucky that I can buy myself things like nice clothes and stuff, I'm grateful for that.
Wishing you all the best
