Can I just drop outta society. Like if I agree not to hurt myself is there somewhere I can just got and watch tv or read books or something.

is that too much to ask for. I get it, people don't want me to die, if I agree can't some organization just give me a place to exist and not have a phone or something

Almost sounds like a prison would be the place but I think they force you to work.

A long term live-in residence facility, but I think it's for old people and psychiatric patients with serious conditions like ongoing treatment-resistant schizophrenia.

Sounds like you should be a NEET.

This implies someone else is willing you pay your living expenses.
You can be a NEET on the streets, on welfare or in jail. But yeah, having parents that would rather sell everything they own rather than have you die would make it easier.

I also wish I would find a community where I could just pack and go, leave everything behind. I've googled something like this but doesn't show up.

Hi! Well, I kinda am doing that now. Almost three years ago, I moved to a small rural village where I have one family member who also lives a very reclusive lifestyle. I am in "town", he lives five miles out.

It took a while to figure out how to do this. (I live alone.) I do have to go out about once every two weeks to run errands: post office, grocery store, that sort of thing. The only TV I have is over-the-air, which means about three channels -- not much choice. Until recently, I had no wifi, had to use my android for everything internet, and since shopping here for anything is not good, I order things I need online. It was very lonely the first two years, except for the people who continued calling me and telling me how to live my life (yeah, right). I blocked them. That has been a big help. I have one good friend (lives in another state) who frequently calls just to chat and the family member who lives close by stops in about twice a week (we get along well). I have not discussed my issues with either of them.

The most difficult part of this was, with nobody to talk things over with, my thoughts would go off the deep end, crazy thoughts, paranoid as hell. It took a while to realize and stop that. It also took a while to get used to being alone all the time. At first, I tried making new friends. That was a Big Joke. The last few months have been much better (since I have had no contact with those who caused trouble). The good thing is that I am financially independent, after 50+ years of working, and I live frugally (nothing to spend money on, no movie theaters or other forms of entertainment, who needs nice clothes when you stay home 99% of the time).

Now, I have become so accustomed to the reclusive life that it is getting more difficult to go out at all. Summer is coming, the snow has melted (for now), it is warming up a bit (low 60's F), and I can go out in my small yard and play with my little furry companion. More walks, although I am becoming a bit paranoid about being seen out there by neighbors. Not too sure this is going in a positive direction, but wth, it's better than it used to be with other people sending me down into the pit.

In warm parts of the world a lot of people are doing van life, with storage unit as backup, that eliminates a lot of expenses... Nothing wrong with getting disability benefits either...

Unfortunately you'd need a lot of money to buy a living space where you can actually be isolated from the rest of society and to keep yourself alive and comfortable by paying for said books and tv service not to mention food, water, electricity, internet, and the transportation to provide some of these things.

But we can't all be rich sadly...

I heard that was some marketing ploy to increase the demand of land or something, funny how it stuck around. In other cultures than the U.S and U.S-by-proxy (west-ish) family members tend to appreciate the survival of the others, generally speaking. I'm really out of my depth here, so don't correct me.

You don't need lots of money, or even to buy your own place (although I did, along with the mortgage company's help). You can isolate yourself in place. Just don't go out and either turn your phone off or block others' numbers.

I did van life, off and on for several years. The longest I managed was 4.5 months before I had the overwhelming feeling of wanting to "go home". In some ways it was easy, in other ways not. But that's just me.

Well you still need money to buy food for yourself if you're not going out to work for it or even to buy groceries and presumably getting food delivered also costs extra... Maybe if you have your own farm or garden that's different but you'd still need to buy materials/land/tools for all that too.

The problem is capitalism puts a paywall on everything. You have to either own capital or work to generate surplus value and have a pittance of what you create returned to you in the form of wages. This makes living without participating in it extremely difficult, if not impossible.

I've long entertained a fantasy of being a noble savage in the woods but I'm too physically flimsy for it. It's possible if you're tough and handy, but it's still hard work. The closest you can come without being an actual savage is van life, I've seen people do that, go on a diet of sprouted lentils (?) and live very cheap that way. But even this takes effort. Everything that involves chilling in front of the TV costs money. The TV itself costs money, food cost money. hygiene costs money, rent and utilities cost money. It's not necessarily a lot of money though. I'm sure that with a bit of passive income or part-time work it's possible to set up a comfy minimalistic life. You just need to do the right things in the right place.

That was my fantasy too.

I rented a small house in the countryside, half way up in the mountains, two months, just to test the waters. I didnt like it. I didnt make my life simpler, I made my life harder. Slow internet, poor infrestrucutre that breaks and takes two weeks to fix, having to go to the postal office instead of parcels being dropped to your door, too much time cwith no one even in sight, errands that wear you down, etc.

I found out that I didnt like to be alone, what a liked was to be left alone. If I were to do it again, I would rent a studio in a safe big city and just wander the city center and its outskirts being nobody, knowing nobody, spending time in coffee shops, streets, small stores, parks and all those little things that big cities have many of.
