Are there any other Brits on here I feel like the only one anyway Two questions for my fellow Brits
1: how do you know the height of a bridge/building?
2: are all bridges so low?
I've had to change plans yet again the place where I wanted to ctb isn't that high especially because the water has risen. Also all other bridges in my area don't look that high so idk what to do now

I know 3 bridges where people often ctb in England. Best thing is to look at news articles for notorious spots.

There's bridges not on that list.

Search on here and the news and you'll find options for bridges and cliffs.

Take it the jumping thing didn't prove attractive as an idea? It seems very violent to me. I'm looking for something far less ideally.

I'm with you.

You'd need to overcome the survival instinct and would regret it on the long way down.

Don't think you'd know much about the impact but still.

There are no places in my area that I know are high enough and this has to be the final time.

Screw that

I know someone that jumped a very high height (several died there), survived, smashed everything from the waist down. The doctors were surprised they survived

Said person has brain damage and is permanently disabled. Their spine detached from their pelvis and they will never feel in that area again. They have a permanent waste bag for wee and have to manually take their poo out, because they can't feel anything. They have no balance, can't stand unaided. Can walk a few steps with aids, just.

Their quality of life is awful. But they live alone and have carers coming in. They are now angry at the world and attack their carers and anyone really, they were a bit like this before anyway (aggressive), but now they don't give a shit about anyone and think the world owes them something, and they can do as they please, because they are disabled. Obviously they have capacity hence living alone

Won't add any further details about further injuries and such in case it identifies myself or them

I saw them go from the coma and all the tubes and shit, to not being able to hold their own head, not able to talk, not able to do absolutely anything to able to move themselves and talk again which took some time. It was traumatic for me too and something I'll never forget. I can't watch certain things or so much as look at a fucking bridge.

Don't do it. You'd be surprised what your body can withstand and the amount of pain without dying. I couldn't even begin to imagine the pain..imagine literally shattering your legs and your pelvis being detached from your spine? Horrific. I've had back pain, but there is absolutely no comparison. And the pain will always be there once the injuries are healed.

You'll be full of metal as well and may not be able to even bend properly ever again, which is a basic thing we need to do in order to get around. Or walk again. You may end up on machines for the rest of your life. Don't think the doctors will give a shit about your quality of life, probably because people can make a literal full recovery from all sorts, but some don't, so ethically, they have to give that person a chance to see if they can recover

The injuries were fucking horrific, this isn't half of them.

Sends shivers down my spine just typing this, because I saw the aftermath of a jump. I wasn't literally there when the person was found (it was in broad day light in front of a lot of people), but directly after they did it. I won't go into further detail, because it'll identify me, like I said, but please don't do this.

If you really *want* to die, there are better ways. More humane

The medical system is fucked. Sometimes keeping a person alive is the cruelest thing to do, but because this person had a heartbeat and could breathe for themselves, (had machines but that was to allow the body to heal), they wasn't allowed to switch them off. I nearly had to make a decision about it though, but shockingly, they pulled through

Really fucking heartbreaking what happened to this person. Breaks my fucking heart. I don't allow myself to think about it. Ever. Like most things that have hurt me really, don't allow it to enter my thought process so it can't hurt me. I dream about them sometimes so they must be on my mind. Actually, no massive lie. It hurts like fucking fuck and I wish I could go back, but to prevent me from feeling anything, I refuse to think about it.

Said person still alive by the way, and lives alone as I said. Anyway, I'm rambling now. Sorry for the essay, I just had to explain all this to try to put you off and for valid reasons

I'm also British. Nearest spot to me is Clifton in Bristol. It has nets and other things to discourage jumping. Jumping doesn't appeal to me anyway.

Holy shit, this is so horrific and what has been endured by that person is so cruel. I don't blame him for being aggressive and lashing out as, although I wouldn't lash out for being disabled, I would lash out in anger due to being forced to live in such a state by society. It's truly so scary as to what could happen to somebody who fails a risky method such as jumping. I hope that his suffering ends one day and that he doesn't have to suffer any more in this hellish existence. I'm extremely glad and grateful for SN existing and being relatively accessible.

That's not acceptable behaviour though. Literally assaulting people, breaking their bones because the doctors kept them alive? They were merely doing their job, they are merely looking for someone to blame, as they always have (even before this happened). Many people go through things and have to live with life changing injuries. I know of others that have had to (not through suicide attempts) and they have good lives and are very happy, it's not always about perspective and mindset, but it can definitely help you live with things, and to manage better, which is very beneficial if you really don't want to die. This person doesn't want to die, if they did, they wouldn't do it for attention. Let me give an example, and this is one of many:

This person can get around by themselves, go to the shops and things, hence living alone. So, this person knocked on a known person to them door and said "I've taken a load of tablets". If you truly wanted to die, you wouldn't tell anyone. You wouldn't tell them so you could be saved, which they were, once again. This was after what happened. This person is very broken, and it's really heartbreaking but at the same time, it's important to ask for help and learn to help yourself, before things get so bad. I'm not saying the help out there is perfect, but at least try. I do understand when things get really bad, I've tried to kill myself numerous times, life is really tough, and there needs to be better support out there, but what can someone do for a person that claims to want help, but refuses to do anything about it?

There's plenty of people that are now fucked from different methods, it's a risk you take, but personally I wouldn't jump, merely because I've seen first hand. I also knew someone successful with tablets, but because they were saved, it gave them a chance, so after the doctors tried to save this person, they said the person is gone and were going to switch them off, but they started coming round. Weird huh. This person now has permanent damage since, but is doing well physically and mentally. That can be said for many that have tried to end their lives.

You know this person the best and it appears you feel you think they attention seek rather than having a genuine intention to die—

But it's very common for people to seek help after an attempt particularly if you're worried about potential consequences.

It's not a cry for help, nor do you not really want to do it—no one likes pain and no one wants to suffer.

I find it odd for someone on a forum like this to have this attitude, particularly when there's so many posts from people that genuinely feel terrible doing the same thing
