sometimes in my free time or whenever I pass a few churches on a drive every once in a while I daydream of a scheme in my mind to become someone who just shows up at random churches for the food or to be accepted into it by bringing my own food and then go there for a month and infiltrate the church so then I can get free desserts and can convince them to let me in on a deal for communion wafers or to let me use the church funds to just get one big box

and then disappear from that church to a different church after a year has passed

the other scheme is to go to a church or find a church that still passes out/displays chick tracks so then I can collect all those small comics

I would also like to add/forgot to add that I haven't been to church in about 4 years~ or more

I heard gurdwaras are known for feeding people for free. This service is used by a lot of homeless people in areas that have them.

You don't need to convert and everyone is welcome.

A lot of churches also have pantries where they collect food from parishioners or others and give it to those in need or let them come and take some~ :) ofc, the church desserts that psp3000 describes is still better, since well, they're desserts~ xD

I don't go personally but I don't find a problem at all with what you typed, while I do not like religion in general it does not discredit that they do have some funding and that if someone is in need of food and water I can't deny that I would wish for them to be able to get it from somewhere even if that place is a place which I disagree with completely. Sometimes there are more important things than agreeing with a concept or belief. Obviously one right thing doesn't mean that the many wrongs are forgotten.

oh I thought everyone's church basically cooked or had food cooked and ready for after service is over (it's what I grew up with and was used to)

but I do know about the food drives and what not some churches also have boxes or pantries outside where people can drive up and donate to them same with some libraries too and I think it's great that some communities and neighbourhoods also have donation boxes and community fridges

I am not in need or trying to convert I am just greedy and like to steal the fruits of labor of random grandmas baking random Bundt cakes + the body of Christ tastes really good

oooo~ neat! :3 my church has meals together a few times a year~ :) every day we went to my mom's old church (special occasions), they had meals too! xD It's awesome that yours had them ready for afterwards every day tho~ :D
and yeah, it's truly wonderful how community hubs like churches and libraries make so much food available for those in need~ ^_^

I hope they never stop or go scarce as they are more important now (community donation and giving back/helping people with their needs) than ever with the threat of federal funding being cut when it comes to food benefits or programs

and I hope more people are inspired to give and focus on community and how ro help others with and without such threats

While I do like the little feasts and food sometimes being served, it's not the main reason I go to church. Still, interesting reading the replies.

Where I was.. there were chips, brownies, rice noodles with carrot and similar, and sometimes little cakes and biscuits.

that sounds great
in my church there was never any food
the evangelical church seems to be stingier

This is hilariously evil.
I just had a fantasy about that: we could go together, maybe disguised as a traditional and god fearing couple. Infiltrate, maybe I could help with some manual labor and you could bake some cakes, like a good trad wife. Then we steal the funds and disappear. Then you accidentally let them know my identity and place. All of a sudden I realize how evil you can be. Then you ask me to do it again.

I had a cat who looked exactly capable of something like this, and now I can't stop thinking of going around with her fooling good-hearted people.

Sounds like a solid plan to me playstation portable. Church is such a joke. My gf dragged me to a service the other week, and it was just two or three old people mumbling about some shit I couldn't even understand for an hour, then they passed around the collection basket three times. There were cookies at the end but I was too bored to even eat and I just wanted to get the hell out of there. How does this appeal to anyone?

Not worth the propaganda you have to deal with. It is like getting free plane tickets if you sit through those time-share meetings. By hour 3 your realize you do not care about going on vacation anymore and you regret your life choices.

Well, when I think church and free food, I am reminded of Wedding Crashers. Ofc, they weren't after the food, per se, but that could be your reason for doing it. And the open bar with free sodas. Snag some wedding favors while you're at it, lol.
A little off subject, since the reception is usually not held at a church, but I've been to a couple where they were.

I will say, and I feel guilty. My dad joined this Mormon church and my god those people can COOK. Im not religious and I always thought it was a cult but dayummm their food was 10/10 always I swear. I wonder how they learned.

All the Mormons I knew in Highschool were so sweet but that religion is something I can't get by I'm so sorry, special undergarments?? Ridiculous.

I am shocked and skeptical but I would never step foot in a Mormon church so I'll take your word for it that they can cook

but also it makes sense that they would be able to cook well because of the big families (lots of children) or multiple wives thing

or do they not do the whole polygamy thing anymore or is that different religious group or adjacent ?

Honestly i think the more extreme stuff is comparable to Islam and how some Muslims are radically like you need the niqab/hijab no school for women and you cant leave the house while western Muslims wear the hijab half assed or with makeup or not at all and go to school and aren't as conservative if that makes sense.

I found a lot of them weird but a lot of the stuff in the media is exaggerated or it's the 40% of really weird crazy ones in Utah where they originated

I dream about Mormon food often,
It's so good. Crumbl cookie is Mormon and although I personally refuse to go there, the crazy desserts is a Mormon staple thing.

I come from a Christian family, I used to be forced to go to church when I was little and I was annoyed. The only thing I looked forward to was the food and kids events, also old women giving me candy. I don't go anywhere since I'm older and I'm not religious by any means. However, if a family member wanted me to go for some reason I'd go if there was food involved.
Besides at least it's not necessarily too boring. The perks of going to a black church, lively music, lively people, and good soul food!
That or I'll ask family to bring food back.
