As someone who literally just turned 40... I just want to know if there are other 35+ people on here.... so many of you guys seem to be 20s, even teens... and I hope not younger.
I'm sure some of my posts here would make my age/world-experience pretty obvious.
May be that's why I'm on here just to discuss means/sources - that too because I'm stuck on foreign terrain now.... not really seeking camaraderie... kind of just set in in CTB and all other notions and stuff?
Btw, may be my perspective is informative to someone: I do see one difference in me from most people here... to the extent I've seen posts... I must say that at least until a few years ago, my life has been attended by every kind of success you can think of... excepting may be starting a family - fell too ill before that one. No life-experience really has been frustrating... went to the best schools in the US and elsewhere... high-flying career, an amount of acclaim... quite some $ before even turning 30. Must've crammed 60 years worth by 35. Illness and other circumstances have now caught up with me. But, even these I just think it's what it is.... genius runs on both sides of the family. So too does illness. A lot of very smart, very distinguished, very fragile people all round. Win some, lose some I guess, like in the Joe Pesci movie. So, even this CTB turn, I'm the least bit upset or pensive. I just care that I don't botch it, and don't end up in jail, because, this is India....

LOL. So ,enough of us to start an adults club here?? Nice.
The other thing is "aging" differs with people. Bill Clinton and Obama were not that apart in age when first sworn in. But, Obama was this sedate, mature type, though he inspired a lot of young voters at least in 2008. Whereas Bill C was known for his chaotic frat-boy WH.... not to mention leading a more colorful/scandalous private life...

I'm 35 - been dealing with my various neuroses since age 13, I think (possibly younger).

Suffering from an overall extended "failure to launch" syndrome.

At this point, just awaiting natural death, martyrdom, or whatever else absurd horror is going to come my way.

36. Interesting to hear about your backstory - kind of intrigued about where it all went wrong for you? Illness sounds like the main reason but don't want to pry.
From what I've seen so far (including myself) most people on here seem to suffer from some form of mental illness - never really occurred to me that there are probably quite a few people with physical illnesses that are just looking to CTB peacefully...

Physical Illness of such severity that spilled over time to other issues too. No mental component... like I said, I view it like in "My cousin Vinny"... "Win some, lose some". Illness rare enough that if I were famous, they'd named it after me, like Lou Gehrig's. I said so on my SN protocol thread.
Genius and Illness both run in both sides of my family. A whole tribe of fragile, super-achievers... everyone has been the "smartest in their office" or class valedictorians or "biggest brain on campus" n their own lives... all gone leaves in the wind soon :)
And when I bluntly say "Genius" I don't kid. I mean the kind that'd give a Terrance Tao or a JF Nash the jitters.
"Genius with Success" and "Illness with Early Death". You got the one, so you got the other too. Is how I think.

Has anyone here been an activist for exit rights? Like with the PPH people or the Final Exit group and such? I have sort of... like 15 years ago. I have always wanted to go before I turn useless, unproductive and helpless. But, even in OR where they have it, even if they know you will eventually go, they want you to suffer "so much" and get close enough they feel fine before aiding your exit. I don't get the logic of imposing an arbitrary pain minimum. It'd make sense if they let you beat all the pain and stay ahead of the curve.

Because there's this weird unspoken belief in the world that living is better than not living, even if living entails an insurmountable amount of suffering. There is a huge, huge importance placed on consciousness. Not even being able to move or have any sort of bodily autonomy. Just consciousness. If you're dying, either through your own attempt or accident, and they save you enough where you're some locked-in but breathing paralysed body they consider it a success and that they've saved you from some terrible, terrible fate.
People don't care that you can't talk, can't move, can't communicate. They, for some reason, think that because you are conscious you are happy to not be dead. The only way to 'convert' people to accept assisted dying and suicide is for them to have gone through unimaginable suffering themselves.

I think this is why people don't have an issue with putting animals down but God forbid a person no longer wants to live. Because we don't think animals are conscious in the way humans are, and I suppose they're not. But people will squeeze every last breath out of you before accepting or letting you die. Because they're terrified of no long being conscious anymore.
