(I'm in Canada) So I've been in the psych ward twice, but this was when I was 15, twice in the matter of a month apart one was because my dad found my suicide note and put in against my will, the 2nd time was voluntary. Good experience for me, good staff besides a couple, made friends (they don't really talk to me anymore) but it seems they got their life together(yet I can't for mine). Anyways, for those that have been in under 18 and above 18 wards, what's the difference?

I'm asking cause at the end of the month I'll be put in the hospital, which is honestly fine, it could help, or it couldn't. Time will tell, and if it doesn't work out… then..

personally ive not been in under 18 wards but a few friends of mine have been.
from what i can remember its basically the same but you have less freedoms since you are underage and they are responsible for you
my times in the ward were always above 18 and i really depends on the location i guess, sometimes it was quite fun and i had a good time and sometimes it was just boring.
also im probably lucky bc in germany the healthcare is quite good dont know how it is in other wards around the world

I'm also in Canada and have been involuntarily hospitalized almost a dozen times from age ~13 until ~26.

There's no real functional difference between under-/over-18 wards, in terms of atmosphere, treatment, food, amenities...

My parent(s) obviously had some control over me in the under-18 ward, they were filled in on things and were able to give consent to have me released. When locked up in the over-18 ward, it's all you. They can't tell your parents/guardians jack shit if you don't give them permission. The decisions are yours, your parents/guardians aren't involved.

I was on a psych hold for 3 days as an adult, I guess you have to want help to get it. The staff is friendly and they have groups and activities, but it's an optional. I spent my 3 days sleeping because I was pissed to be there and I barely ate. I've decided to stop medication and be miserable. I know what my problems are but can't change them so just waiting to die.

It honestly depends on the hospital. Because there's no age limit, you might see a lot of old people.

I hope things work out for you. Sending my thoughts

It is not good in my experience, back when I was a teenager and tried to ctb impulsively they forced me in a white room and didn't give me anything "cause I could harm myself with it" and asked me weird questions and they discussed with my mother that I should get in a residential group and not home just mental torture and when I plannes my next attempt I got scared and told my mother and she told others and they forced me to a day clinic and threatened me to send me to the same psych ward that traumatized me back then if I don't come that is also mental torture it just felt like they wanted to punish me for trying to suicide it makes me so angry that they punish me instead the people who abused me is so unfair and they just showed me that suicide is the only option.

luckily i didnt experience the system while i was underage, first time for me was as i was 18 and i just signed the form basically saying that i agree to be there, that way i was free to go whenever i wanted.
only problem is if police gets you and they put you into the ward against your will.
especially if you live in bavaria where they can just call the judge and keep you for however long they want to basically.
so even if it sounds awful, always agree to go with the police if they are taking you either way if that makes sense

the decision is not yours....... its the decison of the criminal doctors who jail you to let you go
