Not only that, but she and her children spent years advocating to Congress for legislation that would allow her family to assist her at the time of her choosing.

Her family members would face homicide charges if they so much as tilted the cup containing the state-approved lethal concoction to her lips—even if she consented.

So she has to do it herself while she still has motor functions, or wait for a "natural death" after she loses them (which will be extremely painful and prolonged, according to how ALS affects the body).

I've got the same thing. ALS paralyses your muscles over 3-5 years, until your lungs fail. You can't eat without feeding tubes and you can't talk. Meanwhile the mind stays intact. The horror of that makes me wonder every day whether today is the day. My biggest fear is I'll have a sudden new symptom which will take away my choice.

This sounds absolutely terrifying, I can't tell you how sorry I am. I wish things weren't this way, you deserve peace.

This is just so, so sad to read. :aw: Voluntary euthanasia must become an option available to those with severe, debilitating and deteriorating conditions like ALS.

Everyone has the right to die a peaceful and dignified death at a time of their own choosing, and those who cannot take the final drink by themselves deserve to have a physician administer it to them.

I hope states in the US follow Canada's model and allow voluntary euthanasia.

This is fucking rediculous, why the technicality of tilting the cup. So dumb
