I made the tincture of yew leaves last winter but I didn't use it. I had about 900 grams of leaves after I had crushed them which is probably too much. I tasted a little bit of tincture and I experienced a loss of hearing immediately. I could still hear but like through some walls. I thought maybe if I fail, I may become deaf or blind and didn't use it since I wasn't sure about the reliability of it and found very little information about consequences of surviving.

The leaves are more toxic than the seed. The concentration of taxine in the leaves are highest at winter (2.0%) and are lowest in the summer (0.6%). There are different kinds of yew trees, Taxus baccata and Taxus Cuspidata are the most toxic. Pacific yew contain minimal amounts of Taxine alkaloids and there are many more. How to distinguish between them, I have no idea.

I got everything I needed to know about making a tincture and other information from here:

What is the concentration difference between the seeds and the leaves during winter?

I´ve made a tincture from 140 g of pure cleaned leaves. After all the processes I am left with about 300-400 ml of dark brown liquid with faint amount of crushed powder inside. It can be seen swirling around if one looks closely enough. I havent gotten around to drinking it yet, but when I took the smallest sip, I experienced headache, dizziness and a pain gripping my heart couple hours later. I´d say its fairly potent, and if drunk at once, would definitely kill in a hour or two. Its also quite bitter. I honestly think this is a godsend among suicide methods, its basically free method available to most people, and it can be prepared in around a week.

EDIT: I used a cooking weigh for the measure, also make sure to get 80 proof alcohol, that stands for 40 % in the least, the first one I bought was only 37,5 %, so I am trying to save you some cash with heads up. Also I guess keep the room where you boil the leaves and put them in the oven ventilated, I experienced some mean headaches from the boiling and heating parts.
How long did you let the alcohol soak in the crushed leaves for? I am using everclear (95%) Did you use the method that was posted here?

I let it sit for a week because I couldnt wait to have to it ready. As for the boiling part, you should simmer it away, and simmering happens at around 82 Celcius, so just make it boil and the reduce the temperature a bit. I let it boil away for fifteen minutes or so, but since you are using 95 % alcohol I have no idea what will be left of it when you are done, not all alcohol boils away though.

Have you tasted yours? Mine's been sitting in alcohol for about 24 hours and it's super bitter. Is there a way to mitigate that without denaturing the taxine? Why does it need to soak for a week? There's a ton of surface area, so shouldn't the taxine extract be fast?

Yeah sadly so, I managed to drink it some time ago, but not at once so I always woke up. I´ve never tasted anything so bitter in my life, it literally stinged my tongue. And I dont know the reason for why it needs to stay still for so long, maybe just to be extremely sure that it will work? All the stuff is written in one of the few links someone posted at the beginning in this thread, the instructions I posted are merely copied from there.

Can you think of ways to mitigate the bitterness?

Yeah, you can dillute it with water or sirup or something, I was drinking something sweet along with it to mask the taste.

Aight, so I just made that stuff (It took me almost three hours^^") and I would really wanna hear what you guys think about it:
I washed the needles (about 300 gramms) but didn't let them dry, since I immediately cooked them (with a splash of lemon juice in the water) and they would get wet again anyways. Yeah, I'm a lazy pice of shit -.- I cooked them for a bit longer than 30 minutes and after that, I put them in the oven at 80 degrees, again for about 30 minutes. Finally I crushed the needles with a sharp knife and put them in a jar of whisky (seven oaks). I know, it just contains about 40% pure alcohol, but I didn't have anything else. Do you think that it'll work anyway? I gonna let it stand till the new year and ctb with my brother. So I hope it's enough for the both of us.
(Pls ignore my shitty english, I'm from germany^^")

Is the tincture supposed to be a dark green? Will it still be strong enough if I didn't use lemon juice? I'm using everclear which is 95%.

Does anyone know the taxine concentration of other yew varieties? I've seen that the hicks yew is a common yard plant, but does it have as much taxine as a taxus baccata? There doesn't seem to be any info on anything besides regular yew trees.

As far as I know, Taxus baccata and Taxus cuspidata contain the highest taxine concentrations.

What are the dangers of failing with this method? I was only able to get my hands on just enough material, barely 50 grams. It might have been less. I've done the extraction process and am now left with a thick dark brown bitter liquid. If I ingest it all and it doesn't work, what sort of things might happen?

You need European variety of yew. Its more potent.
Is the European yew more toxic than English yew? If so, by how much?

I know in the anecdotal case report of the Polish guy that he survived with no lasting damage and left the hospital within a week. Another one I read recently said that someone who tried the tincture version was in a coma for a couple days then inpatient for ten days before release with full recovery.

Based on the way taxine kills you, i.e. cardiac arrest, as long as you recieve intensive supportive care, you should be fine (minus having temporarily had your heart stop). However, from what I've read, as long as you dose properly and can stay away from others for at least an hour after ingestion, you're going to die.

If the dose isn't high enough, will nothing at all happen?

It sounds like its pretty iffy. I've read reports of low doses getting care and surviving, but others that didn't get care dying. Time between ingestion and a medical response seems to be the determining factor with survival unlikely after an hour.

The necessary dose looks to be around 50g of leaves at the low end and 100ish for sure. If you go much under 30, (dont quote me on this) you likely wont die, but I'm not sure what would happen to you. The tincture or leaves dont seem to do any damage to the GI tract or long term damage to your cardiovascular system given that you receive supportive care in time.

Most likely, you would just pass out and have a terrible headache and stomach ache upon regaining consciousness if the dose is too low. Just err on the side of caution and take as much as you can.

Hey, it's season time for yew tree. Apparently January might be the best month for maximum toxicity.
Tomorrow I'll pick some twigs and dry them.
Unfortunately I can't make a tincture without being noticed, plus it makes the environment unsafe for others.
Is there another way? I've tried to eat them crushed with fruits I had like 87g and puked the whole batch... LOL... A mess.... Anyways, I'm open for any ways to get them in my stomach.

You should take antimedics before eating the twigs to prevent yourself from throwing up :3 And if you want to just eat it you'll need quite a large amount of this stuff since it is less toxic than the tincture.

Would taking antiemetics or those seeds that stop you puking while eating the leaves straight be enough I wonder? I am worried I will fuck up the tincture.

Has anyone actually verified that the tincture contains taxine, or are people relying on chemistry to deduce that alcohol extracts the taxine whereas hot water will not?

If anyone is interested, I´ll copy the the best instructions from the site:
"
Preparations:
1) Clean the leaves/seeds.
2) Dry them.
3) Simmer the needles in water for about 30 minutes, possibly with a splash of lemon juice added to the water (in order to enhance the water's extracting performance). (Skip for seeds.)
4) Retrive the yew needles from the water and then discard the water extraction (since the liquid only contains mostly volatile oils and compounds (ephedrine) that impede the taxine and make you sick. (Skip for seeds)
5) Dry the needles in a convectional oven at 85-90 Celsius and crush them. (Skip for seeds)
6) Put the crushed needles/seeds in a jar of alcohol (80 proof minimum) and stir with a clean spoon to get rid of air bubbles.
7) Cap the jar and store in a cool/dry place, away from light, shaking daily for a minimum of 1 week to a month.
8) Strain the resulting liquid extraction, boil the alcohol out and store the liquid into a colored dropper or a clean glass jar.
9) Store it in a cool/dry, place away from light, until you're ready to use it.

Notes:
Don't use the tincture unless you're 100% sure you're ready to die. There is no antidote for the poisoning.

Antiemetics should be taken when using the tincture as a precautionary measure.

This extraction is gonna taste bitter, so it's recommended you dilute it with water and probably add some flavoring to mask the taste.

The concentration of taxine in the leaves are highest at winter (2.0%) and are lowest in the summer (0.6%). The low end of the lethal dosage is 0.5 grams of leaves for every kilogram you weigh in bodyweight. Regardless of the concentration, the recommended dosage for a real attempt is 2g/kg. The concentration in seeds are always at a constant 0.92%. So the minimum is 6 seeds (0.362g)/kg. The recommended dosage is 24 seeds (1.448g)/kg. The lethal dose of taxine is 3/mg/kg.

The shelf life will be up to around 7-10 years, though making a new batch every 3-4 years would be recommended. You can extend the shelf life of the tincture by adding a little glycerin (5-10%) in the tincture. It will help stabilize the ethanol to slow down the evaporation rate.

Taxus baccata and Taxus Cuspidata are the most toxic. Don't bother with pacific yew, they only contain minimal amounts of Taxine alkaloids.

The interval between consumption and loss of consciousness is 30 minutes. So, be sure to consume the entire extracion within the time period. The quicker the better."

Seems like a pretty great way. I just gotta find the damn tree now lol .

Hey, so i found this site. They have some baccata and cuspidata trees for $25 a pop with a discount on bulk orders.

I guessed at some math. Each of these trees should yield at least half a pound of needles, which should be dried to more accurately account for g/kg. You figure you lose 90% of weight from drying, so that's roughly 23g of dried needles per tree. I'm about 63kg. 2g/kg is 126g. That's about 6 trees.

Also I wonder if this variety would be ideal because its needles are bigger?

Thats the website I bought mine from. I bought two 3-year old yews from them and each yielded about 40-50g of needles.

I brewed the tea with chopped up leaves and it tastes terrible, I'm having trouble getting it down. Plus it is a huge mug full and there is so much of it
