Does anyone worry that if they CTB they'll end up being reborn in another terrible life even worse than now?

One thing that kills me is compared to a large part of the world I'm fairly privileged. I don't consider myself good looking but overall I'm meh. I'm not super smart or anything but I have a degree and a descent job. My parents weren't the best growing up but they weren't abusive and they really did their best. I didn't grow up super wealthy, maybe lower middle class. All aspects of my life have just been very average.

I've always suffered with depression and not fitting in but that was whatever. Chronic illness is what's making me want to CBT and I just cant shake this feeling that I'll end up in horrible circumstances as punishment, like wven more severely disabled living in a 3rd world country with abusive parents. Actually I have a huge list of Possible scenarios

I guess my point is that if it wasn't for my chronic illnesses, I'd probably have an "ok" life but with the way things currently are I can't go on. I'm in my twenties and basically housebound/tortured with pain daily and I'm going crazy

I essentially caused my illnesses so I feel incredibly guilty that I have this relatively good life and basically messed it all up

So be it.
It's unfair but what can I do
Thankfully I don't being in reincarnation. Also what makes you you is your personality, if it's different how can it be you.
For me personally your reasons are perfectly justified, you are in constant pain and I am just vain.
Doesn't matter if you have wealth, good family if you are going through hell every day.

I worried about partially or totally worse outcomes during my most recent attempt. Still not sure what to think.

I feel you on this mental juggling of scenarios, given how I was brought up I sometimes wrestle with fear linked to Christianity, even though I don't practice &haven't since I was a child. With that said, like you, chronic pain has pushed my over the edge. I want the pain to end more than I care about how I'll reincarnate. If there is something out there, I think it would be cruel to punish those who've already suffered in this life.

I don't have any words of advice or anything; but I just wanted you to know that you're not alone.

Maybe even if we had worse conditions we would have a brain that could cope better, who knows. We can't avoid whatever happens after death, so might as well go with the flow. Arguably if life suck the next time around the next version of us could just ctb then too.

I do worry about that sometimes.

But then I think about the logic behind such a thought.

If reincarnation is a thing, why would someone be born into worse circumstances because of ctb?
Surely such a state of affairs would require some omniscient and omnipotent mind guiding the whole process?
But if such a transcendent mind exists, and it knew the suffering that causes someone to ctb, why would it choose to make that person reincarnate into worse circumstances, unless it was an evil mind?

No, if reincarnation is real, then it is either linked to karma or it is random. If it is linked to karma then you have nothing to worry about if your actions and intentions have always or mostly been decent. If it is linked to randomness, then whether you die a natural death or by ctb makes no difference.

I do not worry about reincarnation because i do not personally believe it exists.

I would rather just have my life end as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I doubt there is an absolute refuge one can take from the infinite chaos of this void. Although one might see "no right way" as a selling point. In that case, you're already there. Not like a healthy perspective is a constant thing, though.

You could try to achieve enlightenment before you ctb. Seeing and knowing this world for the hellish trap that it is. seeing it all very clearly. And detaching from literally everything, even including family. Attachments to this world is what pulls you back in and these are attachments to everything you like, love or hold dear. They drag you back.

I have watched quite a few rebirth stories, I have come across a few while watching unsolved mysteries link below, this women committed suicide and she seems to be OK, I don't know I am leaning towards rebirth, some people have excellent recollection but others have past life regression I think we retain a bit of knowledge and experience each time which aids the decisions we make today but I could be wrong I am just as happy if there is bugger all, :smiling: either way the person you are now is gone. There is another rebirth story on there but I like the stories before they could research any facts on the internet.

About five years ago, I watched every video I could find on reincarnation. If you check YouTube there are plenty of good videos on the topic. In particular, there are videos from the late Dr. Ian Stevenson from the University of Virginia (one of the top ten, or so, public universities in the States) who investigated claims of reincarnation from a scientific perspective. The stories of his investigations are quite fascinating and the videos I watched were well done. I recommend these to anyone who considers the possibility of reincarnation.

What I concluded from watching the videos is life circumstances tended to be fairly similar for those alleging reincarnation even for those who CTBed, but naturally it's a small sample size.

In particular, I remember a video of a young Indian boy, who allegedly CTBed in a prior life with a fire arm and apparently reincarnated with a significant scar on his head where the bullet allegedly damaged himself in his prior life. Dr. Stevenson interviews the boy and shows the boy's scar, etc.

In another video, Dr. Stevenson explores a boy who was reincarnated after being killed in a prior life. The boy is reborn into a neighboring village and he leads the villagers to where his former body was buried and then leads the villagers to his killer, who then, if I remember correctly confessed to the murder.

In one of the videos, someone personally "experienced and knowledgeable" claims that everyone who CTBs instantly comes back via reincarnation..... Do not pass Go, do not collect two hundred dollars.

There was one young boy from the UK, who claims that God gave him a ticket after he died and he fell down a chute back to earth and when he woke up, he was being reborn. I can't recall if this boy allegedly CTBed in his prior life, or not. This young boy flys to the island where he allegedly used to live, and he, Dr. Stevenson, and his mom explore his old residence, as identified by the boy. It was fascinating.

From Dr. Stevenson's research, the reincarnation memories completely fade away usually by the age of five.

After watching and reading all I could on reincarnation and the possible implications of CTB with reincarnation, it's given me some level of pause, as I'm late middle aged; and, if CTB is potentially a guarantee for reincarnation, then I think, "shit, I made it this far, just ride it out, as I don't want to come back".

There is a web site where allegedly this psychic can chanel a spirit that can identify who has been reincarnated and who they were in their previous lives. It was incredible seeing the visual similarities and occupational similarities between these individuals. This psychic showed who Michael Jackson, Mark Zuckerberg, and others were in previous lives. He also allegedly showed who George Washington, one of the Wright Brothers, Mozart (?), etc., reincarnated into in their next lives.

A recurring theme is that you learn life lessons and reincarnate into similar situations. For example, per this psychic, George Washington allegedly reincarnated as General Tommy Franks. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, was allegedly some minstrel from the seventeen (?) hundreds, who history claims this person proclaimed himself to be "the King of the minstrels", or King of something. Mark Zuckerberg allegedly was some inventor of some communications device from the nineteen hundreds. One of the Wright Brothers allegedly reincarnated as Howard Hughes, while the other brother allegedly opted to not reincarnate. Plenty of examples on this psychic's web site.

Much of the reincarnation stuff talks about a prolonged "life review" in the after life. And, at least for those who don't CTB, it seems many feel reincarnation is elective. Thus, when I read SS posts stating, "I didn't choose to be born", I'm not so sure this is the case based on what I've read on reincarnation, if in fact this stuff is accurate.

I'm not positive what I personally believe. Regardless of potential CTB, I put out to the universe constantly that I don't want to reincarnate with any of my family members. I figure I want to hedge my bet, and if I can potentially influence what might come next, then I will try my best.

Atheist's perspective...

Look at it this way, the atoms that make you up, that make you you, will go on as though nothing happened if you ctb. In order to be "reborn", somehow those atoms would have to come together again in someone else's womb. Pretty much 0 chance of that happening.

I hope this doesn't make you feel worse - that wasn't my intention.

It is hard to imagine consciousness to exist without having the senses. I think this is what it boils down to, but I am no expert philosopher to explain it.

I've thought about blocking my eyes with a covering to be blind. And to block my ears covering all sound.. although, you would still hear yourself breathing. I could block my sense of smell too.

Consciousness is experienced without those senses.

I'm agnostic although I lean very atheistic. I've seen many posts worried about reincarnation. I highly doubt reincarnation is real as it makes very little logical sense but more "no way for eternal unconsciousness" sense. Your mind just can't comprehend a void after death. If I'm completely wrong and reincarnation is real, there is no reason to be scared because you won't even realize you're reincarnated. The only way I would really fear reincarnation is if you realize you have been reincarnated.

People who've been dealt a fairly decent cards in life are more likely to look for a deeper connection between it and their life/soul and be more wary about ctbying, whether it is due to wisdom from previous lives and the implied higher level or the otherwise unjustified privilege, I don't know. It makes kind of a sense that those less fortunate wouldn't connect or make the same connections, as what kind of soul theirs would have to be. For all they know they didn't deserve it and are more inclined to believe in randomness unfairness and other more grounded believes.

I too worry if I have suffered enough or made up otherwise for all the privilege I had in life. If there's some sort of a credit system and people pay for the things in their life, the upbringing and other quality of life properties surely didn't come cheap. As a 1st worlders our perspective about pain, suffering, work is probably even more distorted from the world's average than what we think, and if there's reincarnation then there might also be a large competition for the limited highly privileged spots.

Do you remember what it was like before you were born? Nope. Do you remember what your life was like before your brain was developed enough to be able to produce memories and consciousness? Probably not.

Consciousness is something produced by the brains of living beings. Once we die, that consciousness is eliminated and there's nothing left. There is no more experience; no emptiness, no darkness, no void. There is simply nothing. That's my belief, at least.

I should note that I recognize the possibility that there could be something more when the physical body dies, but I don't think that we'll ever be truly able to prove it and thus the most logical theory is that of nothing, Anything is possible, I simply believe the chances of life after death are slim compared to the lights just going out.
