you know, hearing that made me wish i'd actually read the odyssey...which made me think "i bet if people listening to the stories back in the day had the option of watching them like we do now, they would rather see Brad Pitt in Troy"

Yes but I suppose they needed singing for getting their attention. It seem like people in the past were like that, you still can see it at the begginings of sound cinema until the 50s most movies had songs somewhere to get people distracted (like the gaming footage backgrounds in tiktoks today )
