  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Will euthanasia become more accessible to everyone? Do you think euthanasia will become more accessible? You won't have to wait until old age, it will appear in other countries, etc. I think it's unfair that animals can be euthanized in almost any country, but a person cannot control his own death.

I think 1 country will make it more accessible at some point. There will still be some loopholes to jump through. And I still think it will be expensive. But man, I can't wait😌

I hope so. Especially for those who are suffering terribly. Like being paralyzed in wheelchair or something.

For everyone? I doubt it- unless circumstances change significantly. The rich and powerful would need to find other ways to fund their lifestyles apart from exploiting the masses (ie. getting them to work for less than them, selling them products and services.) Plus, parents, relatives and loved ones would need to be willing to let people go. (I can't see that happening either.)

Or, life would have to become so intolerable for everyone (eg. severe climate change disasters happening every other week, AI taking over most jobs leading to not enough resources to go round or people not being able to afford them) in order that enough people agree that life is shit. Hopefully, anti-natilism will be more prevalent then too. At that stage, I imagine those in power will be wanting to conserve precious resources for themselves and their rich buddies so, they'll likely want people offing themselves so that they don't end up needing to cull them! Even better if they can profit from it. Charge for assisted suicide, funerals etc. I can only really see it being available if things become a lot more distopian- which I actually think they likely will- eventually.

I think we'll see assisted suicide come in for the terminally ill/ chronically ill in our lifetime though. I suspect mental illness may take longer to sort out. But, 'healthy' workers, consumers, offspring of concerned parents? No. I think we're stuck here with DIY methods for a good long while.

The Netherlands is trying to make it more accesible for elders.
There are a decent amount of organisations that are promoting for more autonomy for adults in general regarding those choices.
Here it will become more accessible, but I don't feel like this does affect the avarage sasu user that much though..

I don't think so. As long as religions and the belief that "life is a gift" exist, it will never be accessible to everyone..

.........
This is what my country's SAIJ* says:
*Sistema Argentino de Información Jurídica (Argentine Legal Information System)

"Euthanasia is a crime against human life and the natural order, for which those involved in the decision and execution of the homicidal act are responsible."

"Today, more strictly speaking, euthanasia is understood as so-called compassionate homicide, that is, causing the death of another out of compassion for their suffering or in response to their desire to die for whatever reason."

"It should be noted here that legalizing euthanasia would open the door to sinister practices, as compassion could be used to justify the elimination of the weakest, the handicapped, and the terminally ill. The alleged public interest in eliminating those who represent a burden to society without providing any material benefit would become "understandable."

States must respect and ensure respect for the fundamental rights of individuals, the first of which is the right to life, and euthanasia is nothing other than the destruction of innocent human life under certain conditions.

Domestic codes and laws recognize the right to life of all human beings, and any attempt on the life of any human being is prohibited, imposing, in turn, the most severe penalties on anyone who takes the life of another.

Today, we experience a culture that vigorously defends human dignity and is committed to defending the rights of all, but which at the same time, and incongruously, tolerates practices such as procured abortion or euthanasia, which are contrary to the inalienable rights of all people.

Therefore, it is everyone's responsibility to achieve, here and now, the demand for respect for the life of all people without exception."

"Another paradox is that medical science has reached a high degree of perfection in the possibilities of alleviating pain, to the point that today there is no longer a form of unbearable and desperate pain that cannot be mitigated. The request here to legalize euthanasia would appear as a demand to hasten death not out of love for death but out of fear of pain.

We could say that today humanity is divided into two camps in the face of pain: one that discovers the true meaning of pain: it knows how to give meaning to suffering and knows how to help those who suffer it; and others that, to avoid it, end up unloading pain and death on others, wanting to ward off all forms of suffering by suppressing those who suffer it."

"Any proposal to modify legislation and allow the taking of life in certain cases must be seen as a breach of ethical and legal principles and the natural order."

"It is never lawful to kill a sick person to avoid seeing them suffer, even if they expressly request it. Neither the patient, nor the doctors, nor the medical staff, nor the family members have the power to decide or cause a person's death. There is no right to choose the place and time of death, because man does not have absolute control over his life; only God decides how and when."

.........
Speechless, it's incredible.. and CRAZY!

It needs to become more accessible and I see so much cruelty in how it isn't, I'd just always prefer to not exist than be burdened with this existence I always saw as a mistake and I'll just always see existence as the most terrible tragedy no matter what, it's all just so cruel and dreadful to me and I just wish I never had to suffer more than anything. I just see it as so horrific how the suffering and torture of human existence is seen as to force and prolong no matter what with no limit as to how much agony one can feel even know this existence was so tragically imposed, more than anything I just wish I never suffered, I'd never wish for the suffering and cruelty of existing rather all I hope for is to not exist, for me non-existence really is all that's positive and I always suffer from how I cannot just choose to peacefully cease existing and never exist ever again.

At least where i live i don't see it becoming a thing. There seems to be a resurgence of conservative values at least in my country and these usually include the "Sanctity of life" dogma that i detest. By the way, we also lack abortion on request and didn't legalize divorce until 2004

Even though the powerful and wealthy hate us and ideally would exterminate us all, they of course, like all vampires, cannot survive without us. They will fight our attempts to legalise voluntary assisted euthanasia for those suffering severe depression and mental illness and only grudgingly allow it for terminal physical conditions. Slaves applying for an escape might become all too popular and it might make look those in power look a bit silly.
Even though , for example , suicide on railway lines in Britain is pretty much a daily occurrence now (and obviously a horrible thing for every person involved to deal with) they still won't allow it for mental health conditions. Perhaps when it becomes a serious problem for the economy in terms of affecting the railway network they might be forced to consider it.
