When a persons life is so pointless why does it still have to be such a big deal?

Yes, I don't understand the social and religious stigma attached to it.
It's sad that a person is driven to it, but all of the judgement and stigma and baggage that go along with it are poison.

I know existence can be difficult, and it does seem like meaningless suffering a lot of the time. Maybe there is no logic to it, or maybe there are hidden reasons for it all, no-one really knows. I just hope that death brings some kind of peace.

Because it is seen as unnatural. When, for a sentient species, it is the most natural response to negative circumstance!! Pain is a signal to go away from or to stop doing what is causing the pain.

People value their own lives, they think you should value yours too.

Because it has to be.

Life has to have a value in our society in order to prosper because of the huge impact it has in how we perceive each other. This applies too in things like death penalty for example. If a group of people appreciate life they tend to care of it and help others than can't achieve basic needs and prosper together. You can't let people die because they want just because they are in rough times.

I know this might sound hypocrite comming from a person that wants to die but it's important to understand the meaning of life and how affect the choices we make as a community. I know a lot of persons recovered from their depression or they problems and how grateful they are to stay alive and it's important to have doubts, reconsider things at some points and maybe give us a chance too, even if we don't see hope.

It's sad that a person is driven to it, but all of the judgement and stigma and baggage that go along with it are poison.
Few reasons for this:

In the past when we lived in small communities rather than large cities, everyone was needed. A death in the community weakened the community to an extent. Not only did the community now have an economic pain due to you leaving whatever job you had vacant, it also lost a potential defender (if you are a guy) or a potential bearer of the next generation (if you are a girl). It also could reflect bad on your family. A sign they failed at raising you or of malproper breeding (our ancestors didn't know about DNA, but they did understand about hereditary characteristics such as depression and other mental illness) Since religion is merely codified social values, that explains both social and religious stigma.

As for why it still stands today when we have a surplus of human beings. Because the only people who believe in our cause enough to advance would rather, literally, shoot themselves.
