For a lot of reasons. It just depends on the person. For me, I do it when I'm super overwhelmed in some way because it distracts me from what I'm overwhelmed about.Upvote 0For me, I don't really have any other ways to express my emotions. I've long since learned that opening up or attempting to show emotions will just result in further abuse, so I just end up expressing it quietly through self-harm where nobody will know or notice.
