  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I believe they are not more successful.

We're seeing an information availability bias.

A successful suicide is going to be discovered.

If someone fails an attempt, they can possibly keep it secret. Even if an attempt was noticed it's not considered as newsworthy for most publications.

Perhaps the ease with which the young and imprisoned ostensibly succeed is in fact because we don't hear about those who fail?
I think it's called the "fallacy of positive instances" when you only hear about the completed attempts. (Well, "positive" only in the sense that they succeeded.)

Confirmation bias may also be a term applied here I think.

You gotta think, its always easiest the first few attempts. The adrenaline, the rush, the not thinking. The more you think, contemplate, and exist the longer you end up desensitising yourself to it, so that you end up not having that lethal combo of adrenaline/mindlessness when making an attempt.

I truly believe that's why younger people are so quick to go. I remember the emotions and pure bravery I felt attempting at those ages, and I would've gotten away with it too if I wasn't so damn physically resilient. It's a nightmare.

Luck (depends on perspective if you think it's good or bad), fate, accident, a shit load of alcohol or drugs.

Dunno. I think about this often.

Same. Much younger I didn't ruminate, it was acting on immediate impulse and I just DID IT.

Stomach pumped and liquid charcoal is not fun. I was more obviously struggling back then so people were more likely to be watching me for signs, and intervened, else I probably would be dead, albeit it might have been a long and painful process. Now I know most OD is not the way for a quick and relatively painless exit.

I have been reading news about hangings and suicides, and I noticed a pattern there....

12 year old girl hanged herself, 8 year old hanged himself, a middle aged woman hanged herself, an inmate hanged himself, a drunkard hanged himself and the list goes on....

None of them are rope experts or medically trained doctors easily able to locate carotids etc

Why do these people, despite the lack of carefully planned preparations, succeed easily and often at CTB?

I don't think they read this forum or several suicide books or binge on many resources...

They don't ponder the type of rope, knot type, length, technique

They don't spend time finding carotids, practicing partial

These people just... Succeed? Almost on instinct? On total impulse?

I know that not every attempt is a success and media reports only the successful attempts, but still, many succeed without obsessive and overly complex preparations....

I feel a bit jealous...

Hope it doesn't sound too terrible, it's a tragedy, but when I read news how a 13 year old girl or boy hanged themselves or some random inmate did so using bed sheets from a window bars, I feel like a dumbass, I feel inferior, I feel... So lacking. Like, a 12 year old girl without binging on tons of threads on this forum managed to do it, YET I can't?

I know CTB isn't a race, but when you meticulously study all possible suicide resources, browse actual suicide videos and pics online from gore websites, bother about every little detail, and then you see these people, especially children and teens, succeed without that much bothering, I just feel like crying, I don't know...

I feel like I suck so much that I can't even kill myself :(
you only read about the people who were successful and not about the ones who tried and failed.

I think the real reason here is they are built different. They have abnormal amounts of hormones and neurotransmitters.

This makes them impulsive and erratic even before they do suicide.

They either don't care or don't know about the risks of surviving if they fail.

I wonder why so many here have problems with ropes and knots, what did they play when they were children, did they only play with smartphones and computers? I knew everything about ropes, knots and nooses when I was less than 10 years old because my parent did not allow me to use a hammer and nails (I could hurt myself). So whenever I build something I had to use ropes to fix the parts.

Another point: At a certain age children don´t feel much fear, that´s why they are abused as child soldiers in some parts of the world.
