With some much going on in our lives, you often hear mention of the "best years," or "best years of our lives."

When I stopped to think about it, my best years were in high school, 14-18. I KNOW, it's sad. :ahhha: Even though all I wanted during that time was space/freedom to live openly/authentically as myself. Once I moved away from home, I got the freedom but also experienced some of the worst traumas of my life. What a trade off. Yay freedom.

——//——//——

So I'm asking you guys, when were your best years?

I was thinking about last year (27 years) when I had my car and was finally able to become independent, but it has also been one of the years where I have been the most down and my father died on my birthday so...
I would say that in high school I also had my best years, but only the second and fourth grades. Although thinking about it, they were not so good so I would stay with my childhood (7-11), when I was going to set up cabins in the mountains.

My 20s. I had a rock and roll band, lots of friends, I could get girlfriends, art jobs were plentiful and easy to get. I moved around a lot, travelled, saw most of the USA. Life was making music, making art, getting girls and getting high.

It was still hard - anger and depression have been kicking my ass all my life, and I'm not good looking, so I wasn't as popular with the girls as all the rest of my friends were. And I had a habit of sabotaging my life when things got good - jobs, relationships. Hence all the moving around.

I miss those days. I wish I could go back and do it all again. Just live in that time until I die. Getting old is the worst thing ever.

Sorry to hear you lost your father & on your birthday- HUGS, that's awful.

Going to a cabin in the mountains is pretty amazing, sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

:O A band? That's sick. Your 20s sound like they were an adventure, not going to lie. Especially the fact that you managed to make it work despite anxiety & depression tagging along. I can appreciate how difficult that much have been.

Likewise. Although I had far less freedom, always on edge dealing with triggers at home & try to manage my MH- the friends I had & positive memories of that time are the best I have.

18-21 were when I had the most potential even though I ended up wasting a lot of it. I've had some of the most fun from the years since then though.

ye, i rather commit suicide than ever be too old.

don't share the same desires as others do, to be surrounded by others during death, can go decades without seeing anybody. wouldn't bother me.

Age 5-9. Then things went downhill fast once I started to become older. Like goddamn shits fucked everywhere. Who the hell wants to continue living where all you do is pay bills, work, suffer from health problems, and repeat.

13-16, was decent at sports, found my niche in school, didn't realize the bunk that was going on with my uncles vs my mom. Then probably 19-21, overseas in the Marines. Before and after those time periods was the usual shit and low points, we all know those.

Oh, yeah- we all know those low points. Enlisting with the Marines sounds it was an interesting experience in your life.

Sorry to hear, depression really does sucks the fun out of everything. Partying makes for some of the best stories.

Partied similarly in my early 20s but it wasn't nearly as much fun as the summer following a heartbreak when I was 25- I partied hard.

I guess I'm one of those people who peaked in high school. It wasn't much of a peak, but things did get slightly better from what came before and I was content with life. Mostly what I remember and miss from those days is this feeling that things were going to work out for me in the end. I thought I had potential, and maybe I did but I wasted it.

After high school life has been going downhill and I think I passed the point of no return a while ago. I guess there's always hope that things will improve, but I'm not interested in trying anymore.

I both understand where you're coming from & share the sentiment. Sorry to hear life's got you feeling so hopeless.
