i have a good shrink but the bad shrinks I've had were stupid about thinking everything is parents parents parents childhood childhood childhood and not realizing how my present material conditions impact my mental health. patients don't have time machines; we can only improve the here and now so the fixation on the past doesn't do much besides just make me upset.

That they say they really did help me and that I just deny it.

I absolutely hate the "it gets better" narrative. It doesn't, for some people. Things can always get worse, and I'd really rather not be lied to. I'd rather be realistic.

That they (the "professionals") are good for something.

I've been told I was crazy or schizophrenic by doctors quite a few times. Mostly it was after I explained my experience with a heavily abusive psych ward. Got overmedicated with antipsychotics because of it. Absolutely tiring.

adding another: that people's mental illness is their own personal failing and not the predictable result of the circumstances they were/are placed in.

people can be extremely good at coping mechanisms, self care, etc and still be miserable if their life is shit. conversely, people with zero emotional intelligence can be happy if fortune smiles upon them.
