  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

And who exactly would you send it to? Is there a certain dept at the police station to send it to?

what do you hope to achieve by doing that?

e: if you're writing what basically amounts to a suicide note and sending it to them electronically, you can go about it how the user coldbed described below. i would add to it, however, that this was your own decision, that you were not coerced or influenced, and that you were the only one involved in this process. all this being said, i don't see why you wouldn't just leave a written note at the scene - you avoid any potential security / privacy issues this way as delayed emails have led to rescue attempts in suicide cases before.

I'm not sure. But I've also thought about this. I still have family so I would send them the email instructing them to contact the police. That way they can be the ones to find me. Police needs to be involved anyway to determine if there was any foul play. As far as I know at least. If there are no family or friends I think I would send the email to my gp and my housing company, they have a person who's responsible for my building and I have their email address. Where I live I don't see an email address on the police site. So I don't think I could alert them that way. Hope this sounds somewhat logical and is relevant to your question. Don't know your specific situation. In any case: take care.

I have considered doing this in the past, prior to a serious attempt, and even set it up once before canceling it later. I guess it could be beneficial if you don't want to cause any unnecessary damage to, say, a cleaning lady at a hotel, or something and want to give fore warning. But the idea that the cops would respectfully facilitate any practical requests for the accurate execution of my will/estate or burial plans seems farfetched to me (at least in my local area) and that's putting it very diplomatically.

The point is to alert the authorities so that no one else finds my dead body. There a lot of threads about this, ways to alert the authorities after the fact so they come find you so that no family or friends have to deal with being traumatized by finding a dead body.

I hope you're more sensitive in future replies, if not what are you doing here?

they've a right too, and they're right.
and why would i send my suicide note to them of all people?
so i end up forced in the ward if i fails; last thing i need is to involve the forced living patrol to hear them spew their protocol pro-lifer nonsense

Thank to everyone who gave thoughtful replies. No thanks to 2 people that made me feel bad for asking a simple question, just asking for clarity on a topic that has been discussed a lot in the past. You 'd think everyone that comes here would know you're dealing with extremely fragile people and to choose your words carefully.

I thought this was a no judgment, comforting place to ask questions and vent. I'm hoping it is still that.

If I end up having the courage to do it one day, I think I would have to do this. Probably a delayed email to my local police station I guess. Otherwise, there's a likelihood I wouldn't be found for possibly weeks by the time I imagine the smell and flies might give it away to neighbours.

I need to get my will, house clearing and pre-paid funeral organised and I would make the solicitor the executor of the will. Think the initial email would just inform the police I had chosen to take my own life. My location and method. (I don't think they would need any protective equipment for any method I am considering).

I would want to create some kind of screen/barrier between my body and the access point with a sign to call the authorities- just in case someone else did come to investigate. Then, by my body I would want to leave a few notes probably and the details of my solicitor- I'm sure the police would contact them to do the rest.

Also thought I would like to leave some cash to the people- police presumably who have to deal with my body and a 'tip' for the poor sods who have to clean up afterwards- plus, a 'sorry' they had to deal with it- that I would have opted for assisted suicide if it was available. I know they're trained for it but I do feel bad about that aspect of it too- that people have to deal with all that because clinical means aren't available. Still, I guess natural death creates a mess too.
