Discussion Are you a conformist or, a rebel?

I think I'm a mixture. I've been burdened- in some ways, with a very strong work ethic. I've always lived up to the obligation to work hard at study and work. In other ways, I've rebelled though. I don't have much respect for my physical appearance or living environment. I will shirk my domestic chores wherever possible- because it's only me who has to tolerate the consequences.

I think I'm a rebel at heart but, I'm too timid and square to break most rules. I resent certain types of authority but, not others.

How about you? Did you have a strict upbringing for one? (I did.) So, was there much for you to rebel against? If you are rebellious, did your rebellion start when you were young or, is it more recent?

I wonder if suicide would be my most rebellious act- if I do it.

That's a good question! I think I'm a mixture of conformist and rebel. My parents didn't want me to be rebellious. Later in life I would say it was always about 50/50 - just a good mix for the life I wanted to live without too much pressures and a lot of freedom.

Maybe a rebel? It started pretty young and tame, like for small examples I would kind of get in trouble more than usual in elementary with petty stuff and I've always had long hair as a guy. I got my ear pierced when I was like 8, even if it was with a parents permission, Its still not entirely the norm. Then as I grew up it was underage drinking and dumb shit. Even now, and I'm really not that old, I still don't follow usual ethics morals, or work values. I just like to make up my own stuff, it feels restricting and unnatural labeling myself as any one thing or following strict sets or rules or beliefs. I just take what I agree with and make up my own lists of beliefs, values, and actions.

Conformist absolutely. But the truth is its impossible to perform everything all the time. For as long as I could remember I've wanted to be "regular" and "normal". I keep fantasising about how I would be normal if I were a completely different person.

According to that CIA PAS personality thing I'm naturally a rebel who has adapted his personality to conform as a survival mechanism.

I am an extreme conformist.

To be truly non conformist is impossible. It is human nature to abide by some tenet no matter how abnormal or counterintuitive it may be.

I wrote a song in highschool called "Conformity, My Enemy" and I think that still sums up my thoughts on the matter.
