if i tell my family the exact address of the hotel, they will be suspicious, because i never do that.
i have told the city and obviously the country.

before i catch the bus, i would hypothetically plan to call the police in my own country and hang up instantly,
just so that maybe they can trace my current location if an investigation should begin.

in my wallet, i have written a lot of post it notes with family member's phone numbers on them,
in case someone looks thru my wallet. and it's also labeled for example "grandpa" and "grandma" and so on...
in huge letters. it should give them a clue who to call.

i was even thinking about writing a phone number on my hand with a magic marker right before CTB.

what else can i do?

i'm not gonna do any type of suicide letter, it's just not me.
not on email either

you can send a delayed(scheduled) email at a future date using Gmail with your location and hotel you are staying at

not a bad idea, thanks. i would need to test that out first, since ive never tried it.
and i would have to be smart about it and not make it seem like a suicide thing, but still give the sufficient information.
just in case (god forbid) i should survive it and be too fucked up to go and cancel the scheduled email

Don't call your country's police. Local police can figure it out. Your country's embassy will likely be contacted. You can also leave contact info of your family near you.

As a side note, know that, depending on where you are going, retrieving your remains to your home country can be very (very) expensive for your family.

Don't call your country's police. Local police can figure it out
it wouldn't be 911... it would be the number you call for non emergencies.
even tho it IS a kinda fucking emergency, but you know...

Why foreign country? That will add complexity for your family. They will have to deal with a lot of foreign entities and the consulate in all the details of death. Give that a second thought?

You could also contact your country's embassy in the country you're visiting, tell them you're a tourist and where you're staying. Many embassies have a citizen notification role in case there's a threat of terrorism, or political protests etc so they can alert citizens visiting.

The local authorities will 100% contact your country embassy right away, because the hotel has your passport info from when you checked in.

Just a thought.
