I'm 27, I used to be completely healthy but in July I was given penicillin for a tiny skin infection, it wiped out all the good bacteria in my gut, and then on day 5 they switched me to another antibiotic because I complained about the side effects, that fucked up my bile production and gave me an overgrowth in my intestine, ever since it's just continued to grow with everything I eat, I've developed gum disease, loose teeth, sudden and extreme endometriosis, permanent pain in my lower back because of that, and now the pill is making my eyes all fucked up. I've spent about £3000 on gastroenterologists and they either say to take probiotics- I've tried, they do nothing, or to take a harmful antibiotic which wipes out everything again and it can cause permanent hearing loss and tinnitus. I've been treated like shit by the NHS and they've prevented me from seeing my medical records because they said I've got mental problems because I went to them a lot of times begging for help. Based on my research I think you can't get your native gut bacteria back once it's gone completely, so I've been looking into fecal microbiota transplants, they're expensive and there's no guarantee they'll work. My brother told me that if the doctors find out then I'll be locked up in a psychiatric hospital apparently, even though there's a clinic that does it in the UK, albeit it is experimental and they make you sign something. So at this point I can't work or do anything so I'm on the verge of throwing myself off something. I used to have an online shop and things I enjoyed, now I have nothing.

I'm so sorry. Your situation sounds awful. I'm assuming your doctors haven't taken any responsibility for screwing up your system? I wonder if you could seek a second opinion and talk to them about the microbiota transplants? Take along notes of everything that you have been given, everything that has happened to you and everything you have tried. Maybe even something like citizens advise bureau could give you advice on where else to look for help- if you're hitting a brick wall with your own doctors.

Sorry- I don't really know what to do in a situation like this. However- these places are usually regulated. May even be worth (as gently as possibly) threatening that you feel your condition is not being handled thoroughly enough- that you are in debilitating pain that hasn't subsided even after following their suggestions. Politely say that you wish to take the matter further and make a complaint if necessary. I reckon they will want to work with you if they can but they'll likely just ignore you if you don't keep pestering them and let them know you're not satisfied with their treatment. I hope they can find a way to help you... I'm from the UK aso. The NHS seems like a real mixed bag. I've known some very good experiences but also some horror stories too. I'm sorry you are suffering.

not sure how much it would help considering the seriousness of your issues.. a consult with a nutritionist to see if they can help alleviate some symptoms

Thank you, no they didn't take any responsibility, they just tried to make out I was crazy. I'll look into the citizens advice bureau. I just worry that these doctors don't even understand what's happened to me seeing as they seemed to disagree with each other.

I'm sorry for your suffering. It sounds infuriating having that happen because of someone else's negligence and sadly most doctors are narcissist so getting them to admit fault would be nearly impossible.

I'm so sorry. I'm in a similar boat. I developed an unusual condition out of the blue and I got pretty much the same medical response as you describe. Frankly everyone does, which is so infuriating. One of my main reasons to CTB.

How does an antibiotic or gut issues cause endometriosis? I've heard of people getting fucked up on ciprofloxacin, but it's usually nervous system problems and tendons rupturing. I'm sorry you're going through this. There's so much about how medications affect the body that doctors don't understand, and it's incredibly frustrating. I have permanent side effects from an antidepressant I was prescribed, so I understand what it's like to have a "harmless" pill make your life so much worse.

Apparently the gut microbiome regulates the production of estrogen and it made it produce way too much in my case. I'm sorry to hear that, the worst thing is that doctors don't acknowledge the harms these things cause.
