Discussion what would you consider a “real” attempt?

how close do you have to be to fully dying to consider something a "real" attempt? i tried partial hanging this night with full intent to ctb, but couldnt find the carotids bc of what i think is bruising, and i obviously failed and will try again in a few days. idk if i would consider it a failed/real attempt since i hardly even began to blackout before succumbing to the pain of the bruise, but i did fully intend to ctb. additionally, would you consider not overcoming survival instincts or nerves a failed attempt, or not a real attempt to begin with?

I would consider a 'real' attempt to be one performed with intent to die. Though I have to ask, why does it matter. If you attempted, you attempted, no reason to keep track or figure if it's 'real' or not. You are already suicidal. Ruminating on details like these only cause feelings of invalidation.

i consider a method where you don't go unconscious or stop midway an attempt to attempt, and being resuscitated by nurses or waking up from your attempt because you survived a failed attempt. attempting to go through with a suicide attempt still means yor suicidal, since i tried and failed to hang myself multiple times last summer before taking a break from attempting with that method because i found it really anxiety inducing to go to the middle of the woods in the complete darkness LOL. ultimately definitions like these don't matter and they're just grammar rules. it's fine if you didn't go through with your attempt because you didn't want to, because you shouldn't kill yourself to prove a point.

imo if you're able to go past the point where SI tells you to stop. That's a real attempt

Yeah it seems kind of pointless to even consider answering this question. You attempted, period. There's no winning here, boys and girls.
