Are you always forcibly placed in the psych ward? How long does it usually last? Do people really get abused in there as much as I hear?

Unless it was public, nothing should happen. If you dont tell anybody they won't send you. If you do tell, they try to avoid sending you to the psych ward, they'll typically bounce you around medications and therapies and hospitals but they really like to save psych wards as a last resort. Abuse in psych wards is common, but not a guarantee.

It depends. If you end up going to the ER, it really depends on what you say, and if they believe you. If you end up being sent to the psych ward involuntarily, it's my understanding that it will impact your ability to buy a firearm from that point on (so if that's of any interest to you, maybe buy one beforehand).

Where you are located, what you tried to do and who is pushing for your treatment varies wildly.
Family will be your biggest problem.

imo you can never be sure what theyll do as they will have total power over you .

imo several of these so called "authorities" like police , judges, government officials or government workers, medical people doctors, therapists, psychologists : a lot of these can send you to the mental hospital if any of these find out you attempted suicide. and then it's up to who ever has power in that mental hospital to keep you there or let you go. it's up to others if they find out.

so imo it's best not to tell anyone that you want to suicide even a friend could turn you in to the police

imo they could keep you there in the mental hospital indefinitely .it's up to a psychiatrist or who ever they assign to have power over you in the mental hospital.

Yeah I think it would depend on location and many various other factors as the kinds of authorities and their protocol; with some being more lenient or less likely to detain and lock someone up while others are more 'trigger-happy' with institutionalization or even (temporary) detainment. However, yes if nobody (not even one's family or best friend(s), close ones, etc.) knows, then it's likely nothing really happens and one's life resumes as it has been post-attempt (unless crippled or everlasting damage from the attempt).

While I've never really attempted myself (as I know if I'm going to CTB, I am going in 100% and making sure I don't fail or as close to near guaranty of success), I know the potential consequences of failure is too great to risk just attempting without being 100% ready or sure.
