You ceace to exist. Your body and your thoughts. There is no soul that will fly into heaven or some crap, that doesn't make any sence. You won't be able to think anymore, because your brain is dead. You won't be able to feel anymore, because your brain is dead. You won't be able to see anymore, because your brain is dead. I will never understand how one can believe in afterlife.

Biologically, you cease to be.
Theologically you can:
Go to a wonderful place full of eternal love and happiness.
Go to a place that tests your worthiness to go to the wonderful place.
Go to Hell.

Go to Hell seems to be the most discussed.
Cease to be seems the most realistic.

I just very strongly believe we cease existing, non-existence to me is freedom from everything and it's the only relief, once we lose consciousness that is it for us, we are gone and there is nothing for all eternity.

I don't have an absolutely fixed belief but I think it most likely that the part of us we recognize as 'us'- our consciousness/ personality/ memories reside in our brains. So- I find it likely that when our brains die- so do 'we'.

I do believe in reincarnation, but I like to think that people can choose whether to reincarnate or to rest in a (non-physical) place of their choosing, either temporarily or for eternity if desired. I don't believe that souls ever truly die. I know this doesn't align with most afterlife beliefs I've seen on here and could be a scary concept to many, but it is just my thoughts.

I agree that death is identical to having never been born at all but…
Is duality not two contrasting things?
Light and dark, male and female, alive and dead. If there was no duality, then surely, there would be no awareness of what being alive really is. Duality is life in this sense because we cannot have one without the other. We cannot be both alive and dead at the same time…unless you're a cat inside a box.
Another reason why Schrödinger and the Egyptians really were ahead of their time.

I hope that I am able to choose to reincarnate again as a human, to be happy, to not make the same mistakes again, to be loved

To tell everyone here if I remember, that it will be okay, they can choose to finally be at peace.

to know that my family is okay

to know that the woman I love is okay

to hope

This life could be dream and when we die, we wake up to other place. Or it could be like in rick and morty just a stupid game we choosed to play and when we die we just finished game and we will continue with our another life which is also just same game we choosed to play :D

When I think about heaven I immediately think about something like shire in lotr, bunch of happy people, enough food, beautifull nature and you will enjoy life you could not.

If there is reincarnation which I think there is, becauce we do exist and if we can exist once then we can come from that eternal nothingness again, question is, do we choose life ? I hope so because I would like to be born again as a human and fulfill everything I wanted in this life but could not. Having family, social life, very good health and many more I could not enjoy.

After that good life? I would choose maybe some other life form or just be in heaven/eternity forever. Thats it.

If there is just nothing then it does not matter what life we lived before, we could suffer and we will forgot that, we could have best life possible and we forgot that, the only difference is that the one with fulfilled life will be happy and ready to go and accept what will come, the one at least for me wont be. I know there are people who suffered and dont wanna go through this shit anymore.

What do you think happens when you die and why do you believe that?
Well, I honestly want a partial afterlife just so I can see people like my grandma again, as well as my miscarried siblings I never got to see. I just can't bring myself to believe in any sort of religion as they all seem so absurd to me. Realistically, I imagine when we die, nothingness awaits. The human brain cannot comprehend nothingness, and we won't know until it happens to us.

So I guess to summarize, I want to believe in an afterlife, but religions, at least currently, aren't for me so I think we cease to exist.

afterlife and reincarnation have always seemed really silly to me,,

I also think its just nothing
like before you were born
or the moments between dreams when you sleep

sometimes i worry that you just experience the last moment of your life for eternity

I have always been an ultra-firm believer in the aspect that this life is one of many experiences. Whether one has a religion, or good and bad (a heaven and/or hell) is of itself another layer on the subject BUT the main bases is a continuance.

I don't believe there is a hell because the whole concept of hell came from the Greeks not the Bible. And the Greeks were not into organized religion (pass the plate and do as I say) they were just trying to explain things.

But I do believe there is something that we can't even begin to comprehend. I don't believe it is vengeful or keeps a ledger of how good or bad you were. It's just peaceful existence with nature and the universe.

Artificially happy on medicine

On Christianity you go into an intermediate state of existing as a soul without a body. Paul in the Bible calls it a state of "nakedness". In the second coming everyone is given resurrected bodies existing in heaven. Those who lived their lives doing wrong are tossed into hell although the word "Sheol" is only used 8 times in the Bible. Hell is a seperated existence from God, it may refer to just perishing or existing seperate from God not necessarily the typical notion of a firey nightmare.

But it all relies on the question of whether God exists or not and I just wanted to point out that there are good philosophical arguments for believing in God. If you're interested in this topic check this out:

These are the top academic resources out there, Dr WLC has a PHD on this and in my opinion his work is highly underrated

You can't be a tree. What I was saying is hell in general when used in the Bible refers to the grave. That or it is a literal hell but I refuse to think an all loving God would throw someone into an eternal suffering. Frank Turek talks about this a lot

Extreme Pain is much worse than people know

There is no afterlife nor reincarnation only non-existence forever after Death

The only way to figure the truth is to reason from first principles. The only things that are true are those that can be tested or that you know are absolutely true. Then reason up from those first principles.

some of my first principles for me are : 1. I and every human will die anyway no matter what . 2. Pain and suffering are very bad unwanted

It's hard to find other things that are objective truths like those so I try to base all things off those or in relation to those 2.

I think most people would agree with these first 2 principles that they are true. but imo not much else is objective truth.

In this kind of thinking I assume everything is false until I can test it or provide overwhelming evidence over years of seeing evidence and testing what i can for it to be true.

And imo it's such an evil society that these 2 truths are very rarely talked about as if they were trying to be hidden. And of course what I said about first principles is also hidden. wouldn't that be one of the first lessons in first grade grammer school?

For example religions and tales about the afterlife can't be true because there are several vague ideas from different people and religions about what they are and no details no evidence. the only "proof" is what other humans have said or written but they show no experimental proof for what they say only "believe me because i said it" . so why would i believe what someone else says with no proof not based even on any tech or science?

As we can see just from this one thread humans have several different beliefs about the afterlife or that there isn't one.

Humans have very many different beliefs about religions, philosophy , procreation , politics and many other topics. All these contradicting beliefs can't all be correct especially about what happens after death science says one thing , evolutionary evidence says another , religions say others things etc.

Where did all these millions of different beliefs originate? Each human is an individual and different with different beliefs on many things. They didn't come from the genes because a baby and child knows nothing not even how to speak . Most of what a human thinks or believes is learned imo, taught by society culture others experiences the movies tv etc.

nde are just hallucinations
Low oxygen levels in the blood (hypoxia or anoxia) have been hypothesized to induce hallucinations and hence possibly explain NDEs. This is because low oxygen levels characterize life-threatening situations and also by the apparent similarities between NDEs and G-force induced loss of consciousness (G-LOC) episodes.
