They're fine. My mother is supportive and helpful. My father and I have a good rapport even if he's not exactly supportive - I'm not sure he knows how to be that.
My relationship with my father was strained until I got into college, at which point we sort of picked up a lot of the same hobbies. "You left just as you were getting interesting," as Henry Jones Sr. would put it. After my attempt, he said one of the things he always admired about me was my resilience; apparently, the fact I'd never complained much meant he thought well of me. On a half-full day I take that to mean that even when I told them about a personal setback in my life, I never moped and always made sure I had a plan to present to them to show how I could overcome it, and they would help out. I suppose that is a kind of resilience if it looked like I was always picking myself back up.
On half-empty days, it meant he really wasn't observant of what was going on in my life, or I was doing too good of job of hiding it.
