I believe we reincarnate and experience a new adventure.
I fear that if we CTB, we must repeat a very similar life until we learn the lessons we're supposed to and this has prevented me for committing suicide. No way in hell I want to reincarnate into this world or one similar to it.

Honestly. I hope it's absolutely nothing. Just an end to awareness, a sort of fade to black.

It's hard for a being that has known nothing but existing to imagine what it would be like to not exist.

I think the whole idea of an afterlife kind of stems from this fact. It is literally impossible for us to comprehend the absence of life since it literally is nothing. It has no description because it is impossible to describe.

I very strongly believe in reincarnation, I want to believe in some sort of afterlife where one reconciles with people dear to them but I think that is just way too much of a fictional concept. I've been sort of fascinated with the eternal return theory as well, I think it is possible? I don't know. It seems majority here just believe in nothing after death. Well I guess that is also very much possible....

My brain dies and with it every trace of my miserable life - my memories, my fears, my thoughts etc.

Death will set me freeeeeeee! Too bad there won't be a brain to enjoy that freedom.
I think nothing happens.. you won't even notice. When I had surgery I didn't realize I fell asleep until I woke up. When u die , I think it's the same but this time you won't wake up.
I had surgery last year. It was absolutely wonderful to be put under: one second you're there, the next you're POOOF, gone.

My belief is that your soul/spirit leaves your body, you face judgement, and either go to heaven or hell for eternity.
As far as reincarnation is concerned, I don't want to come back!

I'm really not sure. I'd love to believe there is nothing. No Gods, no afterlife. I just don't know. I hope there isn't though because, if there is, from what we've witnessed in this world- I'd say the creator is one of a few things. Either a sadistic narcissist/ sociopath/ psychopath. Or, just completely devoid of all emotion or caring. Possibly just very busy- maybe off creating other worlds rather than bothering to maintain them. Or- they are in fact good and all the shit that goes on has some greater purpose we are all too stupid to understand.

What I really don't like is the idea of being a slave. I don't like it that we have been given the capacity to choose but we don't seem to be allowed to use it. Or- it's there so that we are punished if we made the wrong choice. That in itself is sadistic.

My general thought is that there isn't an afterlife. I wish that there was. But I don't think that there's some solar repository that we go to. But I have never been dead as far as… I know. I've never been put under any some sort of surgery that makes you dead or whatever.

"The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness. Although the two are identical twins, man, as a rule, views the prenatal abyss with more calm than the one he is heading for"
- Vladimir Nabokov

I know there was a book in the '70's where they did a study of near death experiences and there were certain specific patterns. Like they all had similarities and patterns. And it might be traced to something in our brain that gets triggered during that experience thats common to all of us. I don't have the answers.

I do like Nietzsche's Eternal Return where you live your life over and over again. Nietzsche thought it was one big loop.

I don't want to be boring and basic, but most likely nothing. You would go back to how you were before you were born, which is a blank void. To die is akin to falling asleep forever and having no dreams.

Pretty big question to tackle, I'll just throw some thoughts out there for fodder or discussion.

I think it's quite possible consciousness just changes, not a lack of but something different that we currently couldn't imagine or perceive.
I also think creation is in and of itself is loving, but that the world is unjust and cruel at times and moreso to some than others. I would also say this substrate of creation is loving, caring and non-judgemental because at the end of the day our existence as individuals is a blip in the face of eternity that actions no matter how bad can be forgiven.

Reincarnation could be nice but it's probably just the void.

In the best case scenario hopefully it's just a dreamless, eternal sleep, but lately I've been increasingly believing in reincarnation, and it scares me. I don't want to have to come back to earth and live life again, I just want to be done. I also believe that the world could be a simulation, and I'm looking for ways to escape...

As others have said, I suspect that death is non-existence. No awareness, no consciousness beyond this life. The atoms and molecules of my physical body will cycle back into the Earth, but I will be gone.

I think we all already experienced the empty void before being born. Why would death be different?

I don't believe in the existence of any Gods or supernatural beings. Souls or spirits do not exist. Your consciousness is nothing but the product of chemical reactions inside your brain. And once you die these chemical reactions will stop, and your consciousness will cease to exist. And then it's just the eternal void. You won't be able to think anymore, because you don't exist anymore. It's just absolute nothingness.

I have always loved this quote. "The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness.
