So the critique for peacful protests is often, that they dont get any attention, for violent ones it is that, well they are violent and you hurt innocent people or property (I dont think property especially the property of cooperations is really that bad, but thats a discussion for another time...) So if you kill yourself, you dont hurt anyone exept yourself and you have the right to do with your body what you want, but at the same time someone dies and the opposite side has to value this life as much as the life of an innocent or else they would be immoral (bc every human life is worth infite...?)
This has already happend, for example maybe some of you remember the cover of Killing in the Name by RATM, thats a guy who did this in Vietnam I think...
Anyway: what are your thoughts on this?

Self-immolation? I can't help but be impressed by someone's passion for something. I guess ALL suicides are in protest to something. Sometimes life itself- having a frail body, living in this society.

I'm not so sure society gets the message though! Even when it's as visceral as self-immolation. The more extreme the method- the more violence employed- I imagine the easier it is for people to see the behaviour- and the person as unhinged.

I think rising suicides in a nation/ a specific region- no matter the method DO point at problems though. That's what a protest is I suppose- pointing at a problem that needs fixing. People simply HAVE to start asking- 'Why are so many people in this demographic offing themselves?' So- maybe it's quantity- as much as the one-off shock incidents that catch people's attention.

I did think about making some art installation with 'F**K Capitalism!' written everywhere but then- some poor sod would have to clean that all up...

I dont know but I like have this picture in my head of like a buch of people commiting suicide to protest idk climate change, and I think they say that the carbon emission of a person will be caught up by the world in a second, so (I know this isnt really realistic) but you have like 60 people and they are like "we granted you a minute" Idk I think that could actually maybe even do something...

Capitalism is something else, we can only beat that shit with literal violence, because why would the bourgoisie give up all their power...

I've thought about this, too. When I was well, I devoted my life to working towards social justice. Now that I'm not well, I like the idea of death being my last platform for making a peaceful (to others) statement of protest against injustice. For me, it's not a fully formed idea and idk if I have the focus or creativity to make it into something meaningful. It's an interesting conversation topic and I'm curious to hear perspectives on it.

Suicide for me is a personal decision I make it for myself for my personal reasons and my own well-being. I would never see it as a kind of protest. Why should I kill myself for the sake of others? Yes everyone is free in their decisions and if someone wants to kill themselves for climate change for example or anything else then it's also fine. It's their (hopefully !!) personal decision.
