Discussion What are your thoughts on suicide jokes?

They used to make me extremely uncomfortable, then I had a period of time where I didn't care and made them... a lot (hey look at me, getting thicker skin, just Getting Over It), and now they just make me angry.

It's frustrating - getting concerned when someone makes those kind of remarks only to find out that, yes, they were all just jokes.

I think it really depends on the particular joke and the context. For example I think dark humor about feeling suicidal can be cathartic. But casual suicide jokes and disparaging people who are already down miss the mark for me.

I only find it funny when other suicidal people can laugh at their pain on hating the world since the reality is actually very depressing that it's sometimes funny because it makes no sense how dumb apes ruled the world and how stupid people are that we don't wanna do the bare minimum anymore to not only work but leave a suciide note anymore because it's not worth it, but with others who joke about it? Get away from me

The sheer amount of emo/self harm joke i make on daily basis lol. Usually whilst dressed in a full MCR style outfit for maximum meme effect.

I agree, although that leads to another problem I have of people making these kinds of jokes in public spaces/in front of people they don't know (and therefore wouldn't know whether or not the person making the joke is actually suicidal) (...if that makes sense)

yeah, i get it, and i mean i get on one hand "oh i need to interrogate this person to make sure they're ALLOWED to make this joke" but like. idk i'm not entitled to their life story. i would rather take those comments in good faith and assume it's from someone who's also depressed.
