I think you missed the point. How does seriously delving into this topic help one live better than they would have otherwise?Well, I think keeping your brain active, even with negative thoughts, helps but also makes you more depressed.
For example, if I wanted to be a millionaire and spent all day daydreaming about it, I might become sad because in the end, I'm still an average-paid guy.
Suicide is the same. I want to be dead but not matter how much I think about it, I'm still alive.
Anyway, thinking a lot about CTB makes you investigate and find new methods. Also, it helped me to find SS, this great community and I'm really glad of that!

It’s also a mental struggle.Well, I don't think it helps at all because it's just like daydreaming.
By understanding that it takes an unrelentingly and persistently abusive attitude to one's own physical wellbeing to commit to the act. Which is fair enough if that's what you choose.I think you missed the point. How does seriously delving into this topic help one live better than they would have otherwise?

If you deny that excess of self abuse, then you have no choice but to live as best you can. If you choose not to, then you are indeed a delusional fuckwit of the highest order. You pay your money and you make your choice.
Pro-choicer. Try reading it. Choice. It's not an easy choice and it's painful and harsh. Would you have people deny that? I wouldn't. I'd expect people to be realistic and make a genuine choice based on that. If you think there is an easy answer, then you are a fool. If there was an easy answer, then this forum, and all the incessant questions wouldn't exist.Prolifer![]()
Hibernation isn’t bad. Just come out when the bears doI wish there was something positive about it but I don’t really think there is. I mean I guess a person who’s suicidal is more likely to do some extreme things or decisions which could result in a positive way but who are we kidding, I’m suicidal - I’m not gonna go out and do some big things, I’m gonna stay at home and self loathe
If you don’t mind elaborating... how did wanting to CTB help to change your belief? Before considering suicide I was atheist and didn't believe in an afterlife. I thought it was all complete nonsense and that people who believed in God were idiots and fantasists. Now I 100% believe in God and an afterlife. I've come to realise that there's so much more to all this than our physical reality. I've also learned that the reason we're here is to be kind and loving towards each other.
i think it helps people to feel like they have some control in their life which then makes life somewhat more bearable. like you always have that as an escape plan even if you dont go through with it it helps to know you could escape it all if life became unbearable. so you dont feel so trapped and hopeless. and that can be enough to keep you going.
I’ll get the popcorn. If you don’t mind elaborating... how did wanting to CTB help to change your belief?
aha, I take it you’re not religious?I’ll get the popcorn.
I was raised in it too but left as an adult. I’ve studied religion since then and am firmly grounded in the idea that none of it is true.aha, I take it you’re not religious?
I was raised Christian, though I definitely don’t practice, this has certainly peaked my curiosity.
All 3 are special needs? Wow. I’ve only ever seen or heard of there being one in a family. It gave me a sense of control in life when I had zero. Being a single mom of 3 special needs kids with no real life social support is hard, and makes me trapped and powerless on bad days. Knowing that I have a way out of this, but making the choice every day to keep going helps. I also no longer fear death or what comes after either. I use suicide as a coping tool until the very distant future when it can actually be a gateway to relief.
I respect that.I was raised in it too but left as an adult. I’ve studied religion since then and am firmly grounded in the idea that none of it is true.
There was a question contained within my response to your accusation. Will you deign to answer it?Pro-choicer. Try reading it. Choice. It's not an easy choice and it's painful and harsh. First is ADHD and it didn’t show up till school age. Second is autistic, and wasn’t obvious till I was pregnant with the 3 which is also autistic. All 3 are special needs? Wow. I’ve only ever seen or heard of there being one in a family.
Because of near-death experiences. After listening to probably over a hundred of first-hand accounts I'm convinced that our consciousness lives on after we die.If you don’t mind elaborating... how did wanting to CTB help to change your belief?

I think I first experienced the paradigm shift listening to Dr Eben Alexander and his account of the afterlife. And from there, I listened to lot of Donald Hoffman whose arguments for the primacy of consciousness are very convincing.
I've not become religious and I don't quote the bible in random and inappropriate places or anything like that. I just believe that there's a source/creator behind all of this.
Hey, I understand your fear and worry towards prolifers, and I understand too that you mean well and don't intend harm, but would it be okay if we tried not to use the word as an insult or accusation, as this might mistakenly come to be taken? Pro-choice includes the autonomous freedom to choose for oneself, whether that be life or death, and I understand that you have every right to be cautious, but I believe it might be helpful to try our best to contribute to an environment where all choices are welcomed and tolerated, as long as they are not forced on others, which I see none of here.Prolifer![]()
I’ve played devil’s advocate on here before and people got mad. I really hope I didn't upset or offend you because I completely understand where you're coming from and don't mean to do that at all... (Also, apologies to have derailed the thread)
For me that is the best positive of contemplating ctb. Just knowing the option is there and you can exit on your own terms provides some peace of mind.i think it helps people to feel like they have some control in their life which then makes life somewhat more bearable. like you always have that as an escape plan even if you dont go through with it it helps to know you could escape it all if life became unbearable. so you dont feel so trapped and hopeless. and that can be enough to keep you going.
