1. That we are ungrateful with life
I mean, social customs tell us that we must preserve our lives even in the darkest moments...
Well, I decide to not take it
2. That we're selfish and don't think in people who loves us
Yeah, I got the point but if I can't find a real purpose other than be alive to my family and friends, why the f$_## I'm living? To put some penny in social security or what?
3. That people out there with worse lives and more "serious" problems than mine
Right, I know in first hand, my mom was in a wheelchair for 10 years and I was a child and don't understand her suffering until I got in first year of adolescence, when she had few months of life , I don't accused my mom of being suicidal but I suppose the enormous stress of carrying an illness and don't have a more maternity active role in my life
Yeah war, forced prosti_&$#, cancer, drugs and everything but really my suffering automatically disprove for? F$#& you
4. That we want to run away from "temporary" problem(s) with a permanent solution
Give me a break, did I really to rationalize this topic?
Anyway

They say that if we wanted to be out, we would have been already. However, they don't know the courage and the planning that something like this takes. They think we are irrational and impulsive when we are actually very self aware and we see things the real way. They like to lie to themselves with toxic positivity and wouldn't dare to accept reality as it is.

I guess that one stereotype which is likely said by those who have never been suicidal themselves, is that suicide is 'cowardly'. In fact there is nothing cowardly about suicide as it is very difficult to leave this world, all humans are programmed to survive, even know we want to die, and methods can fail and go wrong. The society denies people the option of a peaceful exit so they often have to resort to risky methods. There is nothing actually wrong with suicide, it is a human right and it is a personal decision when to leave this world.

I think another stereotype is that all suicidal people are 'mentally ill', when in reality wanting suicide can be a rational response to someone deciding that their life is not worth living, it does not necessarily mean that they are ill or that the problem is them, rather the problem is the life circumstances instead.

Similarly to the other points already made - That we're soft/weak/cowards. They don't realise just how much effort and COURAGE(!) goes into actually, successfully CTB. We're ignoring/fighting our bodies most natural reaction, an instinct every animal has. I don't get how that sounds easy to anyone, especially those who DO want to live. Surely they wouldn't find it that easy? Must be something people say from the comfort of their own WELLbeing.
+ Not sure if this counts as a stereotype. That we're incapable of making the right decisions and choices for ourselves, only based on the fact we're suicidal. Family and friends included, but also involuntary hospital stays where you can't even take a shower with dignity and privacy, like an adult, like a human being. They always say/think we would regret our decision. That we are making a mistake. That we're not in the right mindset to be making big decisions (wtf).
They don't realise how much planning and dedication goes into it. Sure, many suicides can be spur of the moment, "impulsive", with emotions raging (is that how they imagine it happening?). But no one wakes up one day and just decides to off themselves all of a sudden. Especially with no "warning signs" . It's a long, very thought out journey from the 1st time you start to FEEL that way, to the "active plans", to actually going through with it. By the time you're going through with it, it's fair to say - there's no regrets. Many feel suicidal for years before even attempting, I'd say that's enough time to make up your mind

That we've been possessed by the devil and there's no way it someone else's fault why we're suicidal but our own. It's only because of the media we consume, the diet we have, the lifestyle we live.

It's never EVER because of trauma or how life has dealt us a bad hand. Cos you can over those "obstacles" right? You can just move on and become a contributing part of society.

If you're suicidal, it's because you can't fix yourself and you're just trash.

These are some I heard before.

1. That suicide is always caused by mental illness and is always irrational.

2. Suicidal people are only seeking attention. They don't really want to die. They only want everyone to know how much they are suffering, because they want everyone to feel sorry for them.

3. Suicidal people don't really want to die. If they really wanted to kill themselves they would have already did it, because killing yourself if very easy.

4. Suicidal people are cowards and lazy. They would rather die than work on a solution to their problems. There is always help available if you ask, and there is always a solution to every problem. They just aren't trying hard enough.

5. Suicidal people are very selfish. They aren't capable of thinking about anyone but themselves.

In some cases they are not just chrtonic problems but worsening problems with total disaster looming ahead. Many people make serious attempts when disaster looms ahead, especially for financial reasons, though sometimes for physiclal health reasons, or increasing presure from loneliness.

1) That they're self-absorbed, self-indulgent little whiners that think they're the only ones that have ever experienced pain.

2) Whiny little snots that expect life to be easy & comfortable, and when they develop the least little hangnail they run off, snivelling, into their little existential black holes.

4) Mostly they just bellyache, but as they don't accept responsibility, they just whinge on & don't actually do anything…

that people who commit suicide are due to depression or mental problems.
I think it as a very simple way to remove responsibility from society and the events that have brought someone to that point.

I think most of the stereotypes have been mentioned in this thread. I will add that unless they have walked in our broken shoes (and most of them will because the universe is chaotic) then their stupid opinions don't matter.

One of the major stereotypes and misconceptions about suicide which the suicidologist Thomas Joiner has made it his life mission to debunk is the myth that suicide is an act of cowardice and an easy way out. His father died by suicide which led him to become a leading suicidologist. Suicide takes much courage and is never an impulsive act. Films and books often describe suicide scenes as a step into the abyss that takes only a few minutes; however, it is difficult to commit since the body struggles for life. Suicidal ideation and the blunt act itself are like two worlds apart. Nietzsche wrote, "The thought of suicide is a powerful comfort: it helps one through many a dreadful night." The problem and the dilemma I face is how do I make it my last night knowing there will be no more nights after that. I knew a work colleague who wrote a suicide letter and hanged himself. He left his mobile phone next to the suicide letter. I still suffer recurrent guilty thoughts that my own suicidal impulses might have propelled him to the act which I find difficult to go through. I wanted my boss to grant me holiday leave which he refused and I suspect that was my work colleague's cue to commit suicide and take permanent leave of this earth.
