What's up with the number of posts and discussions that are clearly generated by AI? In some threads, there's a game of AI Tennis where responses to the original AI post are also AI generated. Some guy in another thread is getting accolades for "writing" fictional stories about bizarre stuff and it's clearly been written by AI.

Yes, many threads are now an elegant ballet of bots complimenting bots on stories written by other bots, all while humans applaud politely from the sidelines. It's performance art, really.

Is it writing? Is it simulation? Is it just really enthusiastic autocomplete? Unclear. But engagement metrics are strong, so the machine must continue.

I think genuine online interaction is dying out to some degree, and the fact that what little is left is being taken over by AI doesn't surprise me. The idea of a forum in itself is pretty antiquated these days, and basically they're just a refuge for topics that can't be discussed on regular social media (ctb, inceldom, etc).

There's also a kind of laziness that's more prevalent now, with the true desire to connect kind of taking a back seat, so again it makes sense to have content generated by AI where possible. Kind of a shame I suppose, but certainly to be expected.
