I have two questions: what are identities in the privacy setting, and how can I make myself visible to lurkers with no accounts?

I have no clue on the former, but maybe others can see what I can't. I'm viewing my own profile, since I don't have the permission to look at others'.

On the latter question, I turned it to "all visitors" and I still couldn't see my profile while incognito. Maybe this is not necessary, but I'm thinking of making myself visible for no-account lurkers in case I successfully die, so I can provide encouragement. Unless the banning or nickname crossing process is automatic.

As far as I know, unregistered users cannot see account pages period. The visibility only affects other registered accounts' ability to see your page or not.

To avoid making more threads about this, I'll bump this one, because I still want to know what "Allow users to: View your identities" on the Privacy page is. I have everything else set to "Members only", this one is set to "Nobody". Mods, what exactly does it affect?

I started to think that identities are the "find" option on profiles, but you've said that yours is set to private and yet I can see it. To be honest, this was the only one that made sense to me.

But at least I found out that the "news feed" option is just the "latest activity" on profiles when I clicked on a profile that had an empty feed. I thought it was something else.

Right now I have identities set to members only, so maybe someone can check.

I never had a fucking clue what this was so I set it to nobody.
This is what your page looks like to me:

1763027137342 1763027158932

Only thing I can imagine it might be is gender pronouns, since there's a space for that and age and location can be shown or hidden. Maybe add one and set it to private to see

Okay, I added a gender and set my identities to "nobody".

I always thought it meant being able to see someone's previous usernames. You can change your username every few months or so.

Hmmm... Maybe it just doesn't work properly? I remember you used to able to see everyone's previous names in the past, but they must've changed it.

Then it seems like asaáą…khata is most likely right. Perhaps there's a history of usernames available once someone changes it.
If not, what else could this privacy option be about?

Interesting. Every user I've known to have changed their name, I've not been able to see their old ones. Maybe that is what it is but it's set to not be visible by default for obvious reasons.

That's so weird. I thought for sure it hid the birthday, location and gender, but I guess not? I changed my name once, can anyone check my profile to see if the icon for it is near the name? Also if you can screenshot the about page, that would be great. Sucks that there's no way to see what others see on your own.

Is this icon right next to your name? I can't see anything.
Ok, so no icon. I meant this one 1763044738873

Basically you see everything I see except for it. Thank you.

Edit: also, could you delete the post/images now? Just in case.
Edit 2: Thank you!

The question has been answered? So, what's the answer?

There was no icon for @NutOrat's previous usernames on their profile, but based on their earlier comment in this thread, they had the "Allow users to: View your identities" setting at "Nobody", so this was expected if that's what the setting is for.

Has anybody checked what happens if someone has changed their username and has set "Allow users to: View your identities" to "Members only"? (I've never changed my username, so I can't be the subject of this test, unfortunately.)

The answer is that the identities are for previous usernames.

There are probably people who can test that last part, but I imagine it won't be that interesting. It might be like on Steam, where you click and it shows you a list. Or you hover over.

Maybe I'm missing something, but there's nothing in this thread that confirms that.
NutOrat has a symbol next to his name and it's for identities. He has the privacy option set to "nobody" and I couldn't see it, but he can. He sent the picture of what it looks like.

All the other options were debunked, so this is very likely to be it. Thus, I took this as the solution to the thread.

Wow. There's nothing. Maybe AreWeWinning will see something though. I may not be a true member yet.

No, it's not. Not near your name or anywhere.
