Have until September at the latest and unsure of what method(s) I can do that are within a certain set of parameters.

Canadian so guns are off the table. Don't have a vehicle. Tried obtaining chemicals/drugs but they're really hard to find. I don't have much money (~$800CAD, can get more if it's a factor in the method). Want the method to be effective (high chance to CTB). Ideally quick, not necessarily painless. I don't want to negatively effect civilians or have another person help me CTB. I'd like for nobody to find me or a cop to find me.

Had a few questions regarding certain methods: is there a drowning method that's quick and effective? would there be a way to go by train without a conductor noticing?

MAID:

I can potentially wait it out for MAID but I know it takes a minimum of 90 days and Idk if I can start the process before the 17th or if I have to wait till the 17th. Even then, idk if I'll be approved but I assume I will be.

Also, MAID question: I know it says I need my written request to be signed by an "independent witness" and it says "a paid professional personal or health care worker can be an indent witness", I assume my doctor can't be the witness? And if not, how could I get a witness?

Sorry for long post, If any more info is needed, lmk.

It's best to use the search function and continue browsing the forum and reading about different methods.

all i will say is do not consider MAID as a viable method. instead, focus your efforts elsewhere on concrete and tangible methods. i would also encourage you to use the search function and read about other threads containing MAID discussions, as they'll help illustrate it's ineffectiveness.

nonetheless, i hope you find peace.

Can't seem to find much counter arguments for it on here besides it taking some time and it not being guaranteed that you'll be accepted. Is there anything else?

I'll attach a response of mine in another thread discussing MAID. it also has other people's perspectives as well.

Post in thread 'Should I just immigrate to Canada to get euthanized?' https://sanctioned-suicide.net/thre...-canada-to-get-euthanized.148114/post-2310095

it taking time and no gurantees that you'll be accepted are the significant counter-arguments. the majority of us will not fall under MAID's reach.

a better way to understand this is by looking at where the discourse and discussion of mental health and suicide is at in Canada. it is FAR from being understanding and accommodating to many of our mental health struggles, which are written off as a sickness that is treatable and nothing more.

Yes maid is going to be a headache to go through. I believe you need to have demonstrated that you have tried multiple therapies/drugs with no improvement in mental health, a witness to sign (I think a doctor can but which are willing to do so?), and I think there's a few more points in there. And like everything health care related here, there's probably going to be a long waitlist.

With money being tight, maybe jumping? Hanging?

Interesting, I assumed 11~ years of treatment would be enough tbh. I've discussed MAID in the past with my doctor and he seemed confident I could get approved due to both my physical and mental conditions but that was before MAID was postponed till 2024.

If you have a history of suicidal ideation or attempts you'll be screened out.
Also, this seems kinda crazy if true. Is there anywhere I can read up more on the specifics of MAID? can't seem to find some of the info being said.

Didn't even consider a waitlist tbh, fuck.
Jumping is probably it, I've read up on it in the past and it seemed very inconsistent at certain heights tho. I also don't wanna do it around civilians so I'll probably have to travel for it. Idk where in Canada I could go tbh.

If you have both, a physical and a mental illness you would qualify for track 2 and may even be eligible to apply already.

I would consider putting your application in rather sooner than March 17 if you think you may qualify.

Next week a round table decides if they are YET AGAIN delaying the end of the sunset clause in March. So… again. If you qualify now, apply!

The waittimes for a first assessment with a MAID assessor takes a few weeks based on urgency (are you about to die anyway? Then it's faster. Otherwise a couple weeks waitlist)

A specific list of requirements for eligibility is only part of the 600 pager they published last year.
11 years and trying nearly all available meds and therapies should be sufficient.

I have about 15yrs overall and 26 meds but refuse to try ECT. So… 🤷‍♀️
If you have a good explanation why you looked into X Y or Z treatment and why you believe it's not right for you that should be enough.

A supportive GP is worth its weight in gold!!

Right now all you can do is watch the Dying with dignity videos and glean some info from there.

There is a training program for assessors available for free that discusses eligibility(including suicidality) but I don't have access to it.

Let's see what happens next week.
We may just be looking at another 12 months delay, so… always be prepared with a solid plan B.

The new MAID track for mental illness is expected to take 10+ months. Possibly longer.

Not many assessors are willing or qualified to assess psychiatric conditions and you need a psychiatric evaluation on top of the regular one.

Considering the wait times for regular psychiatric treatment I expect that 10 months is BEST case scenario.

So MAID provision earliest around Dec 2024 / Jan2025

When you make you application through your provincial hotline you can ask them for the witness and how to find one. I know dying for dignity has volunteers who will help by being witnesses.

But again. There are more people willing to help and assess and support terminal ill people than there are those of us who "only" suffer from mental illness.

My personal opinion:

1 applying for maid will make it easier to talk about your end of life wishes with friends and family.
2 even if you don't get approved you can prepare your friends and family for the case that you die and TALK about the loss and grief and make it easier for everyone.
3 you get the chance to arrange your will and funeral arrangements in the open without having to hide or lie.

Even if you eventually get rejected for MAID, you will be ready for plan B (which I highly recommend)
