I found this informative video about death from headshot (firearms) and as someone who knows about the firearm method in depth, I found that the information is on point with what I've found over the years. I thought I'd share this video as it explains the process of death by headshot. The part about being hit at the brainstem is true as that stops all major bodily functions to sustain life, such as heart beat, breathing, consciousness are all gone instantly. However, getting hit elsewhere also results in a fairly quick death, especially without medical intervention. Additionally, yes shotguns with buckshot or so (not necessarily birdshot) is very fatal, especially if hitting the brainstem or just oblierating the brain altogether (very likely), therefore, bigger calibers and shotguns are more lethal than a handgun, but shot placement is also a big factor too.
In short, yes, headshots are very likely to be fatal, especially if there isn't immediate medical aid as dying from shock and trauma as well as blood loss is a thing too.
