Valentine's Day is just a day like any other people use it to parade their seemingly perfect lives in other peoples face I can only assume for some sort of validation. Never cared for the day until today because my partner of 2 years left me recently which can only bring me to the conclusion that Valentines Day only seems like a big deal if your single because it highlights whatever you feel is missing. Tomorrow will be another shitty day just like today

I'm tempted to just sleep it off. I could have spent the day with someone fairly special, but I turned them down. Instead, I'll be dwelling on the knowledge that the man I spent 15 years with, love of my life, who I can't erase from my head, is busy building a life with someone else. And it's worse, because he plans to call me today, too. It's not fair, and it's my fault. I can't even get drunk, because my poor paralyzed stomach and scarred pancreas couldn't handle it. I'd *really* wish I was dead.

Meh, I never really did much even when with someone for V day.. spontaneity is more fun anyway (random gift giving and acts of love). I think when you do those things for each other regularly it makes Vday less important.

I dislike the idea of expectation too. It makes it feel less sincere. And then playing this game of one upping each other. I mean I guess so long both parties don't take it too seriously but I'm sure Valentine's Day has inspired many arguments and resentment even among couples lol.
"You didn't do this or that, or enough! I did more for you!"

I was once told by someone to enjoy singledom and that they know women who would give their two front teeth to have their freedom haha. So hey, you could look at it that way- single, less drama?

I prefer what we call today in Spanish "Día del amor y la amistad" day of love and friendship.

Random fun fact: In Japan, Christmas is for couples. I saw heart shaped lights when I went one December lol.

This day is breaking me. I split with my girlfriend a week ago and still have the gifts I was going to give her. I wished her Happy Valentines Day at midnight and sent her cute photos of us and pictures of the card she gave me last Valentines Day and a note I'd saved....she didn't even respond. I don't see how she can just say NOTHING. I can't take it and it's pushing me.

I am so sorry for everyone who is lonely today (and everyday). I feel somewhat defective by comparison because while I do feel lonely at times, it mostly doesn't bother me. I live alone and have no family or friends to hang out with. My phone seldom rings. I have 2 dogs and am happy living as I do. Maybe I don't get lonely so much because I don't like people. Or, maybe it's because I'm old(er) and just don't want the drama that comes along with friendships much of the time.

But for those of you who miss people, I hope you can find some kind of bright spot. Whether it's playing with puppies and kittens at the animal shelter or sitting in a public place and striking up a conversation with the person next to you - if only for a few minutes. Because on the rare occasions that I do feel lonely, I go for a walk or drive just to be around others. And those I see who appear to have the perfect life? I just remind myself that credit cards buy a lot of happiness.

I hate Hate HATE token love day.
You could do 364 romantic things in a year but omitt Feb 14 and you're video game playing, sweat pants wearing douche burger to be confined to the doghouse.
I hope those having a cruddy time today more so than others can get some respite.
Tonight I'm taking the OH to a show (since another evening of Love Island might actually trigger some sort of modern day Valentines day massacre!) where very out of character I'm planning on getting shit faced and spewing everywhere (this excusing myself from the inevitable token crappy shagging that goes with token love day).

Valentines day, the day when flowers, chocolates and cute stuffed animals suddenly rocket in price. The day when you can't eat out because restaurants are filled with couples who feel the need to make grand gestures on this day and then go back to normality the rest of the year.
Because nothing says I love you more than tacky over-priced gifts and packed restaurants full of fakes.
So sitting home alone with my dog doesn't seem so bad

Went to my parents graves today with 3 red roses, one for them each and one for me to signify our love. Kept looking at my plot and thinking surely it wont be long now.

Hey my Love..I'm married n find V-Day so overrated. If I have to wait for one day a yr for my husband to finally take me to dinner, buy me flowers n chocolate, perfume,etc, then that's really sad..It's nothing but a highly commercialized scheme, with stores preying on ppls emotions, selling the notion to SOME men that their bs gifts can make up for their shitty behavior for the past year..imo.Sending u ..Treat yourself to something special today, even if it's just a nice bubble bath, warm shower with ur fave music playing, or glass of wine, piece of cake, .It's all about YOU today! .Giving u a GREAT, BIG hug!!!
