I'm really sorry if I am being a bigot (I just got here), but I browsed the rules, and I found it unclear whether or not we're supposed to be promoting CTB, or trying to promote it (or both). I have heard very bad stigmas about this place from other areas of the internet. Again, I'm sorry if this is bigotry.
Okay, so I've reread the rules, and it isn't allowed, but I've still seen people do it. Given, the threads were older, but still

We don't support CTB in the sense that we don't encourage people to kill themselves. However, most of the people here also believe that a person should have the right to die if that is the choice that they've made, and while we don't encourage them to make that decision if they're questioning, we support and wish people to those who believe that their life is no longer worth living. I think that most of the people here are sad when someone decides to CTB, because we don't actually want other people to kill themselves unless they have made the decision that it would be better for them not to exist, in which case we choose to respect their decision. Some people call it pro-suicide, or encouraging people to CTB, and I support some people here might be doing that, but the vast majority of us don't encourage people to CTB, but rather encourage people who have decided to CTB and in return seek encouragement as we try to seek meaning for our own lives

I've had to remind myself that these people would try to kill themselves whether we gave resources or not. I mean, when I was very very young, I found a "tutorial" on how to slit my wrists on some forum. It wasn't this one, I don't think. People would go searching no matter what.

Honestly, I wonder if this place has kept more people from killing themselves. The amount of times people share the "non-methods" thread is crazy. People join this forum wanting to slit their throat, their wrists, OD, etc. All things that would cause horrendous suffering and likely leave them alive, but disabled.

Hearing about all the failed attempts, seeing the people here mourn on goodbye threads, and seeing how few painless/reliable methods there are, has actually kept me from CTBing if anything.

That is because most of society this nks you are evil if you approach suicide with anything but the usual, tired rhetoric of "stay alive at all costs".

You might find this thread interesting if you have not read it:
