Would it be suspicious if I say it's for personal use? Like for curing meats or something (because that's totally something I'd want to do as a vegan, ahaha).

I'm also technically no longer a student there - I still had access to my school e-mail which is how I was able to place the order, so I don't think saying it's for a research purposes is the move, in case they want more details and I end up losing access entirely.

What response would raise the least amount of red flags?

I doubt this route will be fruitful

Yeah, this seems kind of destined to fail.

Apparently it can be used for photography also (was mentioned in a thread) sooo that seems more "believable" than curing meats tho really anything can be a hobbie so I dunno

I think they are going to call 911 if you pursue this. I would drop it and try a different route.

id recommend going a different route instead as well. if you feel you have to respond, you can say its for stray light testing of a spectrophotometer and you need a NaNO2 liquid standard, but that might raise more questions

I doubt anybody knows how to question that. The real problem is why is a student ordering this?

Yeah as someone who worked in a university lab once upon a time, maybe if you knew the people they could borrow lab supplies but typically this would raise questions as you would likely need more than any amount reasonable for any reaction

Lab's are highly regulated on paper and so they keep track of what goes where and likely won't be selling or giving away chemicals that they need.
