• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

In the mental health world, you are often told that anyone can in principle recover.

When I was younger, I used to remind myself that where there is a pulse, there is hope.

Do we think this is actually correct or just a mental tool so as not to extinguish hope?

Can be possible if you're being honest with yourself and really trying to make a recovery, but i do think that the recovery process also involves the environment and the people around you, so you cant expect a recovery if you cant change or leave the external stressors you coexist with, which i believe are not always under your control or even your fault.

Interesting, so everyone can recover provided that they have the right external circumstances. Do you think that's true even if the most profoundly mentally and/or physically ill?

I've been reading into people's life histories around this forum and i've been thinking that there a some things in life you just can't get over even If you wanted to, mainly things that already happened and are no longer under your control and situations where there's simply nothing you can do anymore.

But again i recognize that all people are different and different people might find meaning and a desire to continue in something other people will not, so i simply cannot give an answer that's absolute for every person on earth

Came here to type this exact thing. I'm learning more and more that a large portion of mental health is all about the support system a person has.

No, that doesn't even make any sense to me as existence itself is the true problem, there's nothing to recover from, for me ceasing to exist is the positive solution to find peace from this dreadful torturous existence and it's just so terrible how a human can be be burdened with this existence for decades longer with no limit as to how much they can be tortured just to face the terrible extreme agony of old age.

To me existence will just always be an abomination that just tortures existing beings all for the sake of it and I'd never wish for any of this, I'll always see existence as the most terrible mistake, only non-existence could ever be positive and desirable to me.

Statistically, I remember seeing that outcomes in depression vary depending on how early intervention starts and they get worse the longer the symptoms stick around (what I mean is - do the symptoms / some of them remain even after the episode is over?) (This was a course on neuroscience in university)
Not entirely sure if I remember correctly though, its been a while 😅

You cant change what have happened before but you can change what you do tomorrow

If you don't change anything in your life then your life won't change

You can recover if you actually try to recover, doing the same thing over and over again and expect an other outcome your crazy

Some things you cant recover from but that doesn't mean everything will be bad

I sure hope it's possible. In any case it's worth trying at least I think

True. It's possible, just not possible for me.

Depending on what you are going through, and how much damage has been done, recovery may be possible.

But there are a lot of factors that come into play:
1. Your psychiatrist should be a really good psychiatrist who's got history of successful cases
2. The damage shouldn't be too much that it's difficult to return from
3. How much support you get from your family and friends

I think it's possible, but not always, depends on the person, what exactly is causing them to feel the way they do? And I don't think it's possible to recover into the same place that you were mentally at beforehand. If you're depressed and suicidal for example, or you even attempt, or you have an eating disorder, an addiction etc, I think it will always be in the back of your mind, and on bad days you'll have to fight the thoughts of returning back into your previous state. As I and others have said, it depends.

Here, me! I actually recovered from severe depression and C-PTSD and was doing really well for ten years, even if life hadn't always been easy. (Sounds kinda weird considering I'm on this forum, but I'm here because of a medical procedure that fucked me up last year, not my mental)
