I tried to hang myself (full suspension) with a neck tie on the shower bar.
In the first few minutes it felt extremely peaceful, my vision went dark and my whole body was oddly relaxed. I was mentally finally at peace. This condition may have lasted from seconds to minutes, its hard to tell because my memory is so hazy.
Then the SI kicked in, i was absolutely horrified and panicked trying to climb up the shower walls and such. I never screamed like that in my life (apparently i was still breathing a bit up until that moment). I was quickly found because my screaming and kicking must have been obnoxiously loud.
I was rescued, couldnt talk or move for good 10 minutes until the paramedics arrived.

Im in the intensive care unit right now, i will be admitted to a psychiatry tomorrow. The doctors did loads of tests, including a CT.
Might have some kind of permanent damage, its still indefinite. My neck hurts and I dont feel the tip of my tongue. Definetly wont be able to further plan anything. Im unsure if I would try hanging again, maybe partial hanging with more careful planning (it was a rather impulsive decision)

I hope my experience can be useful for this site.

That sounds like such an awful experience, I find it inhumane how people have to resort to such barbaric ways to try and die in the first place, I hate this anti-suicide society where people are denied a more peaceful, reliable way to leave.

What does mean SI ?
SI means Survival Instinct, definetly underestimated it. It would have worked if it werent for SI
Who found you, parents?
Yes, i was aware that they were in the house too (as i said it was a impulsive decision) but the bathroom door was locked. I think they actually somehow broke the lock to get in.

How much time it took for you to get unconscious and was it painful , did the SI kick in after you were unconscious?

I wouldnt say it was painful, but uncomfortable (physically). I think it took about 40 seconds to 2 minutes for the SI to kick in, i could virtually feel that I was about to lose consciousness. I didnt lose consciousness during the whole time.

Did you get a buildup of head pressure?

First off sorry to hear about your experience. Failed attempts are a shit thing to through. Besides what brought you to this in the first place.
I tried to hang myself (full suspension) with a neck tie on the shower bar.
from my own experiences. I don't think the shower bar is a good anchor, I'm.surprised it held your weight. And a neck tie doesn't leave a lot of room to tighten properly. Especially for a full attempt.
In the first few minutes it felt extremely peaceful,
A few minutes? Where was tie on your neck ? If you're hitting your carotid arteries with 4-6 pounds of pressure you should be out within
20seconds. Obviously it can vary depending on the person but not minutes.

It sounds like you were choking yourself, not fully. just a bit of oxygen cut off. Not blood flow to the brain.
Then the SI kicked in, i was absolutely horrified and panicked trying to climb up the shower walls and such. I never screamed like that in my life (apparently i was still breathing a bit up until that moment).
SI gets underestimated a lot. My self included.
body fights if it can.
Are you a very short person? I'm glad that shower bar didn't break and you fell and hit your head. Concussions are not fun.

That's good they let you have your phone. Some.places don't.

Hopefully not. But if you were still able to have minimal oxygen and kicking and not being completely unconscious. Might be hurt a bit but not irreversible imo.
Definetly wont be able to further plan anything. Im unsure if I would try hanging again, maybe partial hanging with more careful planning (it was a rather impulsive decision)

Impulsive choices can be brutal and cause damage unfortunately I know this and sorry youve experienced it. There are a lot of threads that have some advice you seek. Good luck.
I think they actually somehow broke the lock to get in.
Most newer bathroom locks / doorknobs have a little button under the handle or a slit on the outside handle. Safety for kids locking themselves in by accident.

And you feel that OPs thread is the most appropriate place to spout off your unfounded opinions on this method?

If your comment seemed even remotely supportive or helpful, I would refrain from saying anything. But clearly you're just here to enlighten all of us on the superiority of drop hanging.

Thanks for the condescension.

I dont think I lost consciousness, i was saved pretty early on. I guess I still had it in me to scream that loud. Yes the head pressure was the first thing i noticed, i could feel my whole body pulsating.

Yes, im 150cm (4'9'') and therefore also dont weigh that much. I also didnt even lose consciousness and I honestly didnt really research how to properly and most effectively do it. It was a half assed impulsive attempt but definetly a horrifying experience, thank you for your kind words!

Shower bar, closets rod, neckties are all unreliable and risky imo and I wouldn't recommend using for even partial let alone full. What kind of knot did you tie for the noose? Maybe that's why you didn't lose consciousness, or the positioning of noose on neck.
