I journal every single day, my entries range from simple documentation of my life: "this morning I did so and so after which I…" to filling out pages with bloodstains, repeated "KILL YOURSELF" and details about my attempts and planning for my potential next.

I don't know, sometimes I find myself adding little remarks about how some sections may be unpleasant to read and how I apologize for that. I don't let others read my journal anymore (used to have my friends read and write in my journal all the time), so I'm not sure who I'm really writing to - perhaps my future self if I for some reason don't CTB or perhaps my family?

I'm of the belief that goodbye/suicide notes are mostly superfluous and just cope, after all if you'll never see the impact of what you're writing on others - then aren't you really just writing it for your own sake? As such I guess I just catch myself wondering who these remarks are for (if anyone)? Or I suppose it's just easier and simply more entertaining to journal while pretending you're actually writing to someone, something akin to the classic "Dear diary…".

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this and I more just thinking out loud but I would like to hear from you all on your approach to journaling and if you do something similar.

I was gonna respond to this but thought I was too late I'm glad you're bumping this! Anyways I am hoping my family at least reads what my journal says after I'm gone. But no. I don't really refer to anyone in my journal. But I kinda talk to it like I would a friend? Like someone I can just run and hide behind. It's very personal to me and I can't fathom anyone else reading it while I'm alive. I always start each entry w a "hey journal!!" And end it with a "alright see ya journal" lol

sometimes it can help us to write more and articulate more deeply when we feel we are writing to others; i know myself that I have written to a degree and T that I would not normally have, had it not been to another [person]. I think there's something in is that finds interest and allure in writing remarks for others!--even in works we know only to be accessible to our own [selves]! Thank you for sharing your journaling experience. Best of wishes.

I have been writing a journal for years. I hope no one finds it because just reading back some of my previous journal entries is very cringy on how whinny I was.
