the only thing stopping me rn (besides the possibility of surviving with brain damage) is that i dont know for sure that death would be better than here, I've been thinking about it for months now and it's honestly starting to stress me out. what do you think?

I believe there is only nothingness after death, exactly as it was before you were created.

I'm not going to bullshit you. No one knows the answer to this question and no one ever will. CTB is a gamble at the end of the day.

I just believe death to simply be non-existence which is all I wish and hope for, I just want peace from this terrible, torturous existence I just always saw as a mistake, I just want to be unconscious for all eternity with the abomination of existence all gone and forgotten, for me non-existence is just the only peace, it's all I see as positive in this existence so dreadful and I wish I never suffered more than anything.

Honestly what comes after could be anything, but I believe it's just nothingness. Just complete loss of consciousness and being asleep. I guess it sucks that you can't really have any cool dreams in forever sleep, tough shit. This question was the #1 thing on my mind for like years, and when you think about it for months on end it definitely rattles you. I get how you feel.

There's nothing after death. The concepts of soul and afterlife were manufactured for the sole intent of controlling the masses and keeping them docile. Why do you think the rich and powerful are so obsessed with extending their life and dabbling in immortality? They've realized that it doesn't get any better than what they already have. If regular people really understood that your actions in life no matter how good or evil were meaningless at the end, imagine the chaos that'd follow. Another way to look at it is that the human mind can't really comprehend nothingness, so religion came with the concepts of the soul, afterlife, reincarnation, heaven and hell to give people a moral compass and prevent said chaos.

We think of death as the end of life, but the problem is we don't even have a right definition of life, neither scientific nor philosophic.

I think we'll lose our consciousness, our body will stop functioning, and our atoms will eventually become the atoms of other matter. You'll be gone, whatever is you.

I don't think anyone dies instantly. You know how people who had near death experiences say that they often saw a white light or experienced something that can't even be described in words, it's beyond comprehension. I think it's some unexplained biological phenomenon, our body will try its best to survive as hard as it can. Therefore, I believe no one dies instantly, we all are probably going to experience some crazy shit we have no idea of, but only for a short time, it won't be eternal.

After that you are no longer you.

Or like sleep on a dreamless night. One moment you're trying to get to sleep, the next you're awake. There was no passage of time from your perception, but you know it passed. The only difference between sleep and death is you never wake up. Eons will pass and you won't notice. You'll just be gone.

what is the mechanism for an afterlife or reincarnation

there has never been any description , observation, details or evidence of this suposed afterlife , soul, reincarnation , nothing ever

humans evolved from a single cell

the core functionality of the first cell is still all human cells , like DNA , RNA, atp, cell membrane ribosomes , genetic code

the core functionality of the first cell is still in human cells as i enumerated some like dna , genetic code same genetic code. if you remove dna from human cells it won't work or atp , or ribosoms.

. when in evolution was this supposed soul mechanism installed in a human or an ape ? does a chimp have an aferllife , a mouse , a crow , a fly , a fish ? no those are machines but so is a human because a human is another animal. does a cell have an afterlife ?

we can tell a cat or crow is conscious and has a self model. but they don;t have a soul or afterlife neither does a human because they are all animals and descended from the same single cell ancestor all siblings

the universe is entropic . everything requires work and a power source. a brain is causing thinking or consciousnes but it does that with energy from having to feed itself 3 times a day.

There is no repeatable, measurable, or verifiable evidence for the existence of souls afterlife reincarnation magic , nothing supernatural ever
The prevailing scientific view is that consciousness is a product of the brain. When the brain dies, consciousness ends.
